From around 1963 by The Shadows. Didn't make much headway as a group in the USA, you had groups such as The Ventures doing much the same thing, but they were big in the rest of the world.

Hope you enjoy.

Nice work James.. If I didn't know jou were playing lap I would've thought all that glissando was whammy bar work Cool

A New Zealand ex-pat introduced me to the music of the Shadows. Great stuff.

Great recording James. We did miss out on a lot of excellent music from the Shadows in the USA. We're just getting caught up now.

Really enjoyed this James thank you, volume up high it's bouncing off the walls - sounds great!

Imagining this being played on the Melobar, you pointing it to the sky and doing the three steps along with Hank and the band, in their stage style.....

Culross and its distinctive architecture, your pictures and their display are a great accompaniment. So many possibilities with the Shadows material.

I only saw them play live once, at the Fairfield Halls Croydon 30'ish years ago, you brought that happy memory back!

Thank you all for your kind words, I like playing the Lap Steel and it gives me pleasure to know others like it too.

Neil.
I gave it plenty of up front volume, I like it loud too.

I will do more of the Shadows stuff as we go along.

James.

James,

Nice to hear of you and others enthusiastic over the Shadows. Hank Marvin is my #1 any-kind-of-guitar hero.

I play a lot of Shadows tunes on steel. Some of their tunes (like "Atlantis") lend themselves well and some others (like "Apache") do not, IMHO.

I recently produced and recorded a CD with eighteen Shadows tunes or Shadows-like tunes....called... "Shadows on Steel".

By the way, I was wondering what the connection was between your images of that lovely part of Scotland (?) and the lost city of Atlantis...

Kay,
I think there were some mixed messages in my mind with those photos and that location. Culross is just a few miles up the river Forth from the birthplace of Alexander Selkirk, the original "Robinson Crusoe" from the story of that name, by Daniel DeFoe. It is also just over the river from The Hawes Inn, which was the jumping off point for Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson.
