Just received some George L cables , and I'm in the process of making some different lenghts - Is it just a matter of cutting the cable to length and , in the case of the straight end ,poke the wire in the plug and tighten the screw? I realize we're not building the space shuttle here , but it sounds too easy . . Thanks Franko _________________ The only things in life I truly hate - fleas , fruit flies , and building furniture |

Yes, but there is a pin inside the plug that pierces the center of the cable. Be sure it's all the way up and tighten the set screw down tight enough to break the insulation and create the ground or sleeve side of your plug.
Also, cut the cable end off square for a better pin/wiring alignment up inside the plug. A sharp box knife or razor blade works well.

That's all there is to it, Frank. Do NOT strip the cable. Cut it straight across to proper length, back set screw out far enough to clear inside hole so cable can be pushed passed the hole and seated firmly. then tighten set screw just until it makes contact with the cable, then tighten the set screw an additional 1 1/2 to 2 turns.
George L also makes a really cool battery powered cable checker which allows you to check continuity and make sure your cable connections are good. I put together a pedal board with a number of effects/cables and it was nice to be able to check each cable before installing. The cable checker is also handy if you need to do some quick cable trouble-shooting on a gig. |

Frank,
I was just making a new Geo L cable this afternoon for a backup for my pedal to amp cable. I also made a short cable to go between my two Boss stomp boxes which took 5 minutes for both cable assemblies--piece of cake! I have a separate case to carry my pedals and Geo L cable gear in. If you do alot of gigs then strongly suggest you keep your wire cutters and small screwdriver handy just in case a cable gets tripped over, etc. Quick fix...either just retighten the set screw or take the cable end out of the plug and cut it again just above where the set screw was and you should be good to go. I use the .155 gauge cable and also buy the straight in plug vs the 90 degree type. You can also get the plastic jackets to cover the plug and set screw hole...look sharp and also helps to protect the plug. Jeff was right on the money on how to insert the cable and tighten it down. Thank's guys - I couldn't believe it was that easy ! I just changed out all my patch cables for my effect boxes , Amp to VP , and VP to steel in less time than it took me to type up this post -but I'm a pretty slow typer using just 2 fingers ! Probably should make up an effects "loop cord" too huh? . . . and Carl-you're absolutely right about the tools etc. - My pack-a-seat has a full array of parts , cords ,fuses ,and tools just in case things go awry ! . . If you use wire/cable cutters, they can flatten out the end a little bit. After cutting the cable, be sure to roll the end between your thumb and finger. That helps make the end round again. |

I've found that the best way to cut the George L's cable is with a razor sharp utility knife on a cutting board. That way the insulation doesn't get deformed the way it does with wire cutters. To get a good reliable contact inside the plug the cable should be cut perfectly square. |

The Geo-L website has proper instruction for doing this, the trick is a clean flat cut.I use a box knife.

Don't twist on the cable as you insert it into the end.Just push strait.
