Topic: Any A6 Players out there ? |

I went back to a D10 2 years ago and I never really learned C6 then but got the itch again. I've played E9 for 32 years and dobro for 33 and it seems like it would be easier for me to go G6 or A6 which I can relate some dobro stuff. I like Herb Remington's playing too and he's a A6 man.

I put the back neck of my D-10 in A6th for a while. It had a much fuller sound than C6th. I didn't use Herb Remington's setup...just a fairly standard C6th setup but transposed down to A. The tuning was A D F# A C# E F# A C# B, from low to high. I'll probably use that tuning again at some point.
There's no reason not to tune it to A6th, and it probably would relate to dobro or non-pedal tunings better, as well as E9th.

I actually converted to A 6th for a few years and,as
I recall,it felt OK...somewhere along the line,though,
I must´ve entered a brainstorming phase,and I´d be
back in C 6th,this time for good,it seems...I still

Yes, I changed the string gauges. It was necessary because it wouldn't lower some of the strings far enough since they were already so loose. Also, the heavier gauges are part of the difference in sound. For example, Herb Remington uses a wound 3rd string, which you couldn't use on C6th. The heavier gauges give it a much bigger and fuller sound.

| Do you think maybe one guage per string would do it? OR- does anyone have a list of guages for an A6 tuning? I'd like to get that fatter sound & also think I'd be more inclined to play on that neck more in a jam situation if I didn't have to stop and reorganize so much. |
