Topic: Changing Pickups with Springs: How? |

| I'm changing pickups on a Fessenden and I can't figure out how to get the #$%^#@ springs and mounting screws to line up. Is there a trick to doing this? |

| Place the guitar on its side. Put all four (or 3) screws through the pickup, place the springs on the pickup screws and put in sideways. Don't know of any other method as easy as this. |

| Use a rubber band. insert the screws , then the springs. lasso the rubber band around all three screws just above the springs, bingo |

What I have done several times before is put 4 toothpicks in the holes, add springs over them, use them to line up holes. Hold the pickup down or tape it to depress the springs and pull out the toothpicks and replace with the mounting screws.

Thanks for the tips, guys. The toothpicks did the trick. I had to put a little tape around them to make them wide enough to stay put in the holes, but after that it worked perfectly.
Billy, it's funny -the pickups I'm installing here are the Truetones that came on the 78 Emmons I bought from you a while back. |

Hi Justin, It didn't sink in that you were the one with my old push/pull. That is one I definetly wish I had back. so if you decide to get rid of it let me know. The guitar sounded great with the truetones or the standard ones.

A method I have used with some success is to coat one end of the spring with a dab of contact cement, let it cure for a minute or so, then stick it to the pickup. Then it will (usually, sometimes) stay in place while you put the screws in.
