A deal like this is tough to pass up.. A forum member needed to sell his Desert Rose Vintage Pro.. Its dead mint as brand new. Doesn't look like its ever been played. He bought it a year ago, and had trouble adapting his lap knowledge to pedals.. He listed it here on the forum for $1700 which was already a good deal. He told me he had only an hour or two play time on it, and thats exactly what it looked like. I could tell by the A/B pedals... Brand new looking.
I told him I could be down to NJ in 4 hours with cash and he knocked the price down to $1550.
I drove 210 miles EACH way on a saturday night to get it,, As I was sitting down to play it he said to me.. "You are getting a great deal today"... I didn't have to answer. We both knew I was..
Its a magnificent guitar in every regard.
I would post pics, but can't get them to load on this site any longer.

Sorry Chuck, I know we were talking new Desert Rose Delta Blues, but this was just too good a deal to let go, and yes you do INDEED build a beautiful guitar.
This looks destined to be my #1 till the end of my days... I need to change the copedent, set pedal heights and such, as well as add a pedal or two, but its everything anyone could want in a steel guitar.. I will never again gaze with lust at a Sho Bud guitar....bob

A few pictures of bob's Desert Rose from the for sale post. She's a beauty bob! Looks like the big brother of b0b's 8 string Desert Rose.

Russ.. thanks me for turning me on to this guitar.
My friend Russ emailed me about this guitar.
The guy knows my taste in steels.. Every time he emails me about a guitar I try and buy it!
Finally was at the right place and right time.
Russ you're a good guy, but you are costing me a lot of bread here ! Smile

That is one sweet guitar, and the half-pad is perfection. I've seen several DRs on here that I've lusted after, only to be down on my cash at the time. I'm gonna have to move a thing or two to set up some cash flow for one. Nice score.

What's going on this weekend? This DR, an Anapeg, and a Franklin, and a Fulawka the other day? Say what, are the stars aligned correctly or what?

BTW - I'm looking forward to that Strat - I told you that years ago a buddy talked me into selling my Sonic Blue MIJ RI to him, and I've regretted it ever since. He still tortures me by playing it out all the time.

I remember seeing that one in the shop before it was finished - bee-u-t-full

They play great to - Now you need a new brown seat to match ------ could not let that go by

Just joking but you do have a great steel

Enjoy it

Congratulations Bob. I'm looking at a Desert Rose as the next "last one I'll ever need", too. Man I gotta try one of them. Anybody out ther have a nice DR D-10 that they want to trade for a really nice S-12?
Anyway, Bob, play it in great health and just enjoy.

Yeah, I got pissed at it and was about to get out of it, but I think I should talk to the guy that built it first, [Chuck Back] and see what we can do about the lever placement issues... It plays and sounds very nice, and stays in tune.
The pad is a minor annoyance, but I can get used to it over time I suppose.. Its only a half pad.
Its simply too nice a guitar not to give a little more time.. I gig it this weekend, and if she behaves, she stays.

I'd have bought it if I didn't already have one. Audiences and bandleaders have nothing but compliments for mine. I was able to adjust the knee levers to fit, and now it is really comfortable to play. Sounds great, too.

It's only half a pad because it covers only half a neck,Chuck's guitars are not an SD-10 or an S-10 they are somewhere in between.I've got my knees set-up just where I like them but that's a personal choice,If I wore my watch on my right hand that's where the pad aligns, again whatever is comfy for you? Bob, I don't understand. One day its a magnificent guitar in every way and you will never lust after another Sho-Bud. The next day the guitar is not for you and your selling it for another Sho-Bud. Doesn't quite make sense does it?

Kevin,

It's kind of like a pair of pants that when you first get them you think they fit fine ... and then you're not so sure...

bob will work it out or someone else will get a great deal! Smile

Why/?... Never bought anything that didn't fit right?
There are LOTS of very expensive items bought and sold soon afterward, when the item didn't respond the way the buyer hoped it would.
This is indeed the perfect guitar for someone, but I do have issues I need to get over with knee lever spacing and feel . It has nothing to do with build quality. Strictly ergonomics that affect me alone. None of the levers fits me right, and I need to make major changes to get them where I like, and on this guitar thats not easy to do. Hacking on a brand new guitar is not my cup of tea.
So yes I thought it might be more advantageous to get the guitar to someone thats looking for a wider spacing on the levers. Its really not that confusing, I and wonder why you even had to make a statement such as that.. Nothing constuctive to add to the discussion??. W Fine, but why inject negatives into a discussion that doesn't concern you? bob

Bob....

Has anyone noticed the ads that Chrysler is running for the mini-vans right now . "60 days to change your mind and return ,if you don't like it". It's your $$$$$$ , your guitar , your right to post on the forum ,and your decision . It really doesn't make sense to keep it if it doesn't suit you and even less to take a chance of ruining it for someone else .And even less sense to care what other people think of the situation , bottom line ....you gotta do what you gotta do .

Oh yea , how many threads have I read where people say ..."gee , I wish I had that steel back !" Well why did they sell theirs if it was so perfect?

Sad Whoa! At first I thought I tuned into the Banjo Forum . Rolling Eyes Laughing
HANG IN THERE AND GOOD LUCK !!!!!!!!

Please show me where I said ANYTHING that expressed disdain. As stated its a very fine guitar in every regard. However, and I will attempt to explain this so that even you can comprehend- The guitar doesn't fit me as far as knee lever reach and feel. understand? I also am not bonding with the pad.

Its very well built, sounds beautiful, stays in tune, and has great sustain.. Each item was mentioned by me, but your myopia has prevailed..
Its a great guitar, but after several days I felt uncomfortable behind it.. Strictly ergonomic..
Get it?... I have decided to stay with it, get used to the pad, and see what Chuck can come up with to help with my discomfort with the levers. Can we let it go now?
People like you are the reason I have avoided this forum past few years.. I made a lot of great friends here over the years, but man it seems things have changed....
