I'm not just happy, but absolutely ecstatic to announce that Laurel Records, a classical music record company that caters exclusively to the Mozart-Beethoven crowd has offered me a contract. They will promote and distribute the existing copies of all 3 of my CDs, and then as each one sells out, they will re-release them on their own label.
The president of the company is aware of the steel guitar forum, and has inserted a clause in the contract that allows me to sell the CDs when I perform, and also continue to supply CDs to b0b, so that those who want to buy them from him will continue to be able to do so.
As I've previously stated, my ultimate goal is to be the first pedal steel guitarist to become a concert artist on the classical music circuit. Having my CDs on this label is a major step toward that goal.
I'm going to have to go out and buy a tuxedo. _________________ Please visit my web site and Soundcloud page and listen to the music posted there.

BTW, I have to say that Doug Livingston (AKA Earnest Bovine) deserves this more than I do. He is 1,000 times the play I am and has forgotten more about both the steel guitar and classical music (and jazz and country) than I will ever learn. _________________ Please visit my web site and Soundcloud page and listen to the music posted there.

Congratulations Mike. I wonder if you'll still have drunken audience members shouting for Steel Guitar Rag on the classical circuit or coming up to you and wondering what on earth that gadget you're playing is? You probably will. They'll just be dressed and speak a bit more refined... |

Just tell them "it's a nutcracker: sweet!" Wear a bear suit and play "Fur Elise..."
Congrats! Now we just need to get Dave Easley on Blue Note and our Plot for World Domination will be assured.
This really is big, you know. |

Mike,
Another one of my heros makes it big,(you became a hero after reading your book) good for you. I never thought of the steel as a classical music instrument, but you showed everybody it can be. BTW, I have been a Mozart fan for years. Congrats. |

Some comments.
First, I hope everybody reading this checks out Doug Livingstons's wonderful classical steel playing on You Tube. As I said earlier, he is a much better player than I am and deserves this more than I do. Here is a link:
http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=183471
Second, for those of you who have not heard any of my recordings, there's about an hour's worth of stuff from all 3 CDs on my web site. (www.mikeperlowin.com) and you're invited to visit the site and listen.
Now regarding some of the comments.

Well, classical audiences don't drink, or even talk during the performance. (That's one of the things I like about them.) They sit and actually pay attention to the music. BUT every time my trio performs, as part of the performance, I give a 30 second lecture and demonstration of how it works, and these people are always very interested. And after every performance, a few people gather around me before I break down and ask "What is that instrument?" and say things like "I've never seen one before" or "I saw on on TV but I didn't know what it's called." These comments are usually followed by things like "But it sounds lovely, and it blends so well with the viola and cello."
This is a GOOD thing. These people are very respectful, and eager to learn about our instrument. I always invite them all to sit down and try it. Some do, and walk away in total confusion. (A lot of these people are musicians themselves, and occdasionally somebody understands it immediately.)

That in fact is my next goal. (Performing with orchestras.) There are a lot of obstacles to making this happen, but the one I have to deal with immediately is the lack of arrangements for steel and orchestra. I'm currently in the process of writing some. I've done 6 so far. I am not sure how many I will need, but I plan to write 20.
The software I'm using (called "Printmusic") can make MP3 files of the written ones, so I can send MP3s of my arrangements to anybody who wants one. bear ikn mind that these are not actual performances, or even real instruments, but computer generated simulations. Also, the software dos not have a steel guitar patch ( ) so I have to assign my parts to other instruments, usually a harp.
Anybody who wants to hear what I'm writing, send me an E-mail. _________________ Please visit my web site and Soundcloud page and listen to the music posted there.

Once again I want to remind everybody that I wrote a special supplement to the book explaining how the things in it relate to the E9 pedals, and that I'm offering it for free to anybody who requests it. (I have to send it our as an attached file to an E-mail, so please, if you request it, send me an E-mail and not PM through the forum, so I can know where to send the file.)
I must also remind everybody that the supplement is worthless without the book itself, which you have to buy at your local music store. The book is published by Mel bay publications and is called "Music Theory In The Real World, A Practical Guide For Today's Musicians."
Here's a link.
http://www.melbay.com/product.asp?ProductID=98207&Heading=Theory,%2BCompositio
BTW the supplement also contains a section on how to read music on the E9 neck, which I've extracted and made into a separate little (4 pages) article, which I will also send to anybody who requests it. _________________ Please visit my web site and Soundcloud page and listen to the music posted there.
