I came in from cutting the grass the other day, made myself something to eat, flopped down in front of the idiot box and flipped it on. As it happens, "Urban Cowboy" was on and up popped the scene of the bandstand in Gilley's where the front of that black laquer Sho-Bud has a full-frontal for a few frames. Got me to wondering where that guitar is now. Anyone know? It's famous! Hopefully it hasn't been turned into a wagon..... Winking

I think that Bob Tuttle was in the Gilley's house band at that time. Robert Herridge was the featured fiddler for sure.

Robert and I were good pals back then, but we lost touch. Anyone know what he's doing nowadays?

Hey Herb - Robert and I played together in several bands, most recently we both did a couple of years stint with Zona Jones. Robert just quit Zona about a month ago, and is concentrating on building his new insurance business. He is also an accountant...went to my alma mater, U of H after 14 yrs. at Gilley's. He lives in Sealy, TX now and is doing well, he is a fine gentleman IMHO, always has a smile on his face.

Robert had a lot of cool stories about the Urban Cowboy movie. He is a man of high character and sober habits, somewhat of a rarity in this business.

C.E. Holden - LOVE your Lee Van Cleef/Angel Eyes avatar. My favorite movie of all times. Just showed it to my six yr. old boy last week, now he is hooked on it, too!

Hey, thanks Jody! I am a Lee Van Cleef fan myself. Funny to think he was an accountant before he became an actor. I'll bet his staff made dang sure everything balanced out....how'd you like him mad at you?

It was Bobby Tuttle. He received a grammy for the "best country instrumental" on the album sound track. Jody.

That black Sho-Bud was a 1979 Super Pro. Actually the finish was a dark charcoal grey. You could see the woodgrain through the finish. I had only had it a few months when the movie was filmed. I ordered it with humbucking pickups. Either David or Harry Jackson wound the pickups.

I played it for 20 years and then got the urge to try something new. I traded it off at the 1999 Dallas show for a new Carter. Later I called John Fabian to see who had bought it. I had plans to try to get it back. He said it went out of the country, so I have no idea where it is now.
