That's Mandy Barnett and THE MAN, Buddy Emmons. I have always liked the way the bass line swells in over Buddy's break in the middle, like an ocean wave at 2:45. I even tried to get Harold Bradley on the phone to tell him how much I liked the arrangement. Buddy shared the session with Hal Rugg and the album is pure classical work from everyone involved.

Yes, Mandy Barnett and Buddy Emmons teamed up for a great track here. I love the complete album, with Buddy and Hal doing awesome backup work.

Roger: Wish I could tell you what you need to know but I sent my copy to Bill Stafford so he could hear it. My first impression was Patsy Cline was back but I also thought that when I went to see the movie THE FLY II and heard KD Lang for the first time on the sound track.
And a lot of us were doing the same thing when we heard Dawn Sears doing SWEET MEMORIES with John Hughey and later, Paul Franklin doing those beautiful steel impressions with the Time Jumpers.
Patsy really put a line in the sand with her vocals. It was a bench mark a lot of us still judge female vocalists by. That certain tear in their voices really makes one sit up and listen. I think the best example of that was her rendition of FADED LOVE where she actually sobs on the fade out.
Some of the Mandy Barnett album was produced by Owen Bradley and Harold finished the work. The reason I called Harold was because he is listed in the credits as BASS and I was curious as to how he got that surge in the bass line. May have been violas or/and cellos in the string section... both of the Bradleys knew their work and have left a mark all over Nashville.

Paul, I couldn't agree more. Our band will be doing three dates here in Texas over Labor Day weekend with Carolyn Martin from the Time Jumpers. I love to watch their video with John on it. |

Roger,
The title of the album is "I've Got A Right To Cry". It features some pop-flavored songs with a great country feeling from the history, incl. some Don Gibson tunes. Steel work is by Buddy Emmons and Hal Rugg. Really a great album!
