I Have been playing the "Sho Pro" CD which I purchased from Jeff Suratt at Dallas.
Every track on it is tremendous.
The first track Has Lloyd Green playing Some Broken hearts Never Mend. This is a mind blowing experience of technique and tone.
Lloyd hits a note at 0.18mins which still knocks Me off My seat.
I guess there will be plenty guys who can do a fair copy of Lloyd's style but I doubt if anyone could play this one note Lloyd's way.

Hi Billy,
I know what you are talking about. Lloyd has an unique style which sounds deceptively simple until you try to figure something out.
IMHO it is his phrasing that no one can duplicate. I either read or saw somewhere that he can split a beat into multiple parts beyond what us mere mortals can do.
Super nice guy as well. He has it all.
Regards,

Billy - that is an open string that Lloyd slots in at that point.

In the clip that Walter kindly gave a link to, Lloyd is using a few bar slants. His delivery is very authoritative and he plays single strings phrased similarly to singers.
All of this has been said before, but I believe that Lloyd is probably the most emulated steel player around because you can work out the notes that he plays. However, it is his delivery and tone that makes him uniquely identifiable. Some people can get close, but never fully achieve what Lloyd does - the reason is that they are merely copying the originator. He really does maximise the 3 pedal, 4 lever basic E9 set up. He gets more with less.
I kick myself that I was at the Station Inn a week before Lloyd was there on the show recorded on the You Tube clip, and had to return home just before the night he was playing. Bad planning!! _________________ Show Pro D10 - amber (8+6), MSA D10 Legend XL Signature - redburst (9+6), Sho-Bud Pro 111 Custom (8+6), Emmons black Push-Pull D10 (8+5), Zum D10 (8x8), Hudson pedal resonator.
