Well so far into the program, no steel guitar sounds, and every song played has nothing outstanding being played. The band is a monotone of noise. The singing, I would say it is more hollering. It is 9:30pm now, and I had enough. Turning the TV off. _________________ Sho-Bud LDG, Martin D28, Ome trilogy 5 string banjo, Ibanez 4-string bass, dobro, fiddle, and a tubal cain. I'm hearing steel right now with Miranda Lambert. Also just before with Jason Aldean. A fair representation if you ask me, but what do I know?
I forgot it was on for the first 1:15. Who'd I miss? |

A perfect example of a bunch of turds floating in the country music punch bowl!!
I quit watching that noise and went outside to listen to the wind chimes.....much better than what I was hearing or seeing on tv |

Carry Underwood, entertainer of the year. What a breath of fresh air. At least she can sing on key and in time.

I watched the whole show from start to finish and liked some of it and hated some of it. I liked the opening song of Creedence Clearwater's "Playin' in a Travelin' Band" especially since they included the man John Fogerty in the tune..... As far as some low points, I like a lot of Taylor Swift's tunes but literally hated that song she did while moving through the crowd. She was out of tune and literally had nothing going on with the song. I'm glad Carrie Underwood won as she's one of the few who can actually sing......JH in Va. _________________ Don't matter who's in Austin (or anywhere else) Ralph Mooney is still the king!!! |

Same here! That song last night was just beautiful, and the steel on it was magnificent.
Maybe there is something going on with my TV, but I'm listening to the show again right now, and I hear steel all over the place. I would say this year has more steel heard than recent awards shows. Not sure why some can't hear all the steel, maybe they forgot to turn on their hearing aids. _________________ http://www.oldbluesound.com/about.htm

I was there and at rehearsal, a lot of people sang to tracks.....only a few used live band. Oh and Kenny Chesney was miming too, don't know why, maybe he was sick? There was some nice steel from Gary Morse with the allstar band at the after party though. _________________ Mullen Guitars, Little Walter Amps, Benado Effects, D'Addario Strings

Jamie Lennon,I was there too and " sometimes you just can't win " no matter what you do right. So this is what we get for building a Nashville Sound in Las Vegas from Nashville. Sad but true nothing will ever make anybody happy for Country Music the way it use's to be. Nothings real anymore for anything but words to keep each other or maybe not. I'm watching it again right now. I had to record it last night as I was gigging at the time it was broadcast. When I watched it last night, I remember hearing and see (although at a distance), several steel players.
What really puzzles me is, this was supposed to be live, yet I see a message saying "recorded earlier. Voting is closed" or something like that. Now, the entertainer of the year award and what song Brooks and Dunn were going to sing were supposed to have text or online voting (even though I think the B&D song was decided way before the show was taped). How the Hell are we supposed to vote when they don't broadcast until after the show is over. It must be a west coast problem, kind of like Presidential elections. By the time west coast workers get off work and to the polls, the race is pretty much decided.
Jamie, was Miranda playing live? I'll explain after I re-watch her performance. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . I'm going with live on that one. I think there were only 5 people on stage playing and that's what I heard. A few feedback squeals, a couple of clams, and the acoustic guitars low E string was flat. On the second verse, when the kick drum first came in, it clipped really bad, then someone immediately turned it way down for about 4 measures, then they got it settled in the mix.
Those things don't happen on pre-recorded tracks.
As for the show saying it was "Recorded Earlier", that was just for the Pacific & Mountain time zone feed. With all the innovations that TV has gone through, they still haven't figured out a way to get around time zones. So when a show is "live" at 8 PM in New York, it's not going to be "live" at 8 PM in Fremont CA. _________________ http://www.oldbluesound.com/about.htm

Alvin, did you hear the 1 bad note the steel player hit, as I did? It was a good one. He was like a whole fret off. I would have been proud. The rest of his playing was probably the best I heard on the show. Right up front and very tasteful.
Another high point for me was Toby Keith and the song he wrote for Waymon Tisdale (?), the NBA player turned jazz bassist who died from cancer. Made my hair stand up and a brought a tear to my eyes. Dave Koz was great as usual on sax on that.

It could have aired here at 5:00. On a Sunday, it would have still had the viewers it would have had at 8:00.
Not that I would have voted (wasn't home) but that sucks. They should have the show earlier in the day so they can broadcast to the whole country at once _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . Ya, that note on the second verse, I think it was the third line, it was a nice big clam, yet his playing was very soulful and I really enjoyed it. I also like the Toby Kieth song, and that may have been the most emotional performance I've ever seen from him, and nice steel intertwined with the sax parts. _________________ http://www.oldbluesound.com/about.htm

I would like to know why they would have Cher on a country music show?
She's about as country as Madam Butterfly! |
