After 40 years of not playing, I have started in again. I have a Gibson Grand Console double neck non pedal and a new Peavy Powerslide. On both guitars, when I use the 12th fret, the strings don't "resonate" like they should. I've tried different strings, tunings, nothing seems to help. I'm now in C6th tuning.
Any suggestions?
Thanks...

Its a harmonics issue from being on the C fret while the guitar is tuned to the key of C. |

It's a harmonics issue because the 12 fret is 1/2 of the string length, giving you the 2nd harmonic (2/1) of each string. The next "prominent" fret/harmonic would be at the 7th fret, which is 1/3rd of the string length and then the 5th fret, which is 1/4th. |

Chas´s right, and the most prominent harmonics are
powerful enough to cancel the deliberately activated
vibration to some degree ; the heaviest plain string
picked at fret XII will be a case in point.McUtsi |
