Pete Townshend playing pedal on Thunderclap Newman?

I had this album back in college and just got it again on CD. There's pedal steel on the instrumental "Hollywood Dream." When I search it, some credit Pete Townshend (under the alias he uses) as playing the pedal steel. It's nothing fancy, but it's fun. Does anyone know anything further about this? Did Pete pick it up and then drop it, much like Dave Edmunds (Edmunds played some pretty neat steel on a Ducks Deluxe tune - "Rio Grande," I believe)?

Dave Edmunds played steel on his own records to, at least I can remember the song I Knew The Bride, which has it.
