It's been a while since anyone's mentioned The Vanduras - Gary Brandin and his son Geoff Brandin - so I figured I would.

Surf noir. Great cinematic, atmospheric stuff! I highly recommend their CD.

Gary got a rare shout out last month, maybe in another section, but you can't say enuf about anything he's involved in.

Out surfing? Cool

I love their "In The Dark" album, waiting (im)patiently on the next one.

Been listening to The Vanduras very much lately, Andy, we must be on the same wavelength. Laughing

I really love how they're a father-son duo, multi-instrumentalists, spaghetti!

Lots more sound samples are here:

And yes in other sections of the forum, there's constant mention of Brandin, who also plays pedal in addition to the brilliant non-pedal work that he does (and you can hear him playing on SpongeBob)

Sidenote: I used to get pissed when Youtubers would mention Spongebob when commenting on my nonpedal videos--now I feel honored!!!!

Gary seems to have surfaced on a couple of the Tikiyaki Orchestra clips as well. A real Martin Denny thing going on here ....

Andy, yes I'm out there! HA!

Those Tikiyaki gigs are just up the street from me. I don't do the outta town gigs, as I no longer travel. I've gotten too old, and cranky.

My son and I are working on a new Vanduras CD.

Thanks for all the kind words.

Great news, Gary! Looking forward to it. THe Tikiyaki gigs look like fun ... the full Martin Denny treatment including bird calls and gongs.

Wow, this Vanduras stuff is sweet!!! I have been lurking here since I bought a lap steel about a year and a half ago and just realized it was time to become a member...

I live in the Boston area as well Andy, and I've been checking out Kevin Barry as much as I can! Wish he had more instrumental recordings to share and I think he is working on that.

Kevin's fantastic. He's got a lot of sacred-steel inspired phrasing in his playing.

Thanks Chris, it was my idea to do that song, but my son had to do all the work.

Here's another Tikiyaki video from Don the Beachcomber. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bEYorLdCEnY
The second song is off the Vanduras CD.
