So sorry to hear this. I worked some of my first recording sessions with Johnny. He owned Trinity Studio in Ft. Worth & produced and played on many records there. He also played guitar on the classic "Live @ Panther Hall" w/ Charley Pride. He was the only musician on the record that was not a Nashville session player. That ought to tell you something about his talents. Another great one gone.

All of Susan and my deepest sympathy goes out to Johnny's widow, the talented Kelli Grant.

Johnny, one of Bob Wills' great lead guitarist, will definitely be missed by Western Swing fans, worldwide.

Subject: Johnny Patterson's funeral

Casey Dickens called and wanted to share news about Johnny Patterson's funeral this morning. He said there were about 125 people, maybe more. He and Albert Talley represented The Texas Playboys legacy, and served as pall bearers. It was closed casket.

There was a nice speech by the minister, then Johnny's friends and fellow musicians got up and all told stories. Most were funny and touching, Johnny would have enjoyed it all. Many musicians whom Johnny played with over the years and on various bands were in attendance.

Casey and Johnny of course were on the Wills band together in the '60's. Casey is spearheading a benefit in Johnny's honor to try to collect enough money for a headstone. He will announce the date in the coming weeks, soon as he can secure a venue and get the commitment from few musicians to play.

Meantime if you want to donate, Casey will put your check into Johnny's fund. Make it out to Johnny Patterson Memorial Fund, in whatever amount, any amount is greatly appreciated. Mail to Casey at 109 Hide-Away East, Hide-Away, TX. 75771

Rest in peace our friend

Sad to hear this. I met Mr. Patterson only a couple years ago, though I'd known about him for a long time. He came backstage at a Murphey concert I was doing in East Texas, and I was honored to have finally met him. He was a very nice, modest man. And a great musician.
