Here's a link showing a rez-o-phonic banjo I ordered last year intending to fool around playing slide banjo. And clawhammer, of course. Rez-o-phonic because, as one friend put it, that's one Indian banjo, in the best possible way. Dobro resonator in place of a skin and the resonator back is a 1940s Pontiac hubcap with the Chief himself. Made in the USA by one Mr Hargis, who is also playing Old Joe Clark in the video. Banjo is due to be delivered in just a couple more weeks. Sounds even better with medium gauge strings instead of the lights in the video.

Damn, I've got a set of 1952 Cadillac "sombrero" hubcaps, maybe I should....naw, but it's a great idea.

Not an original idea, though, Chas. First one I saw a picture of had a VW Microbus hubcap and a skin head. The Pontiac hubcap was the perfect fit with a custom-made block maple rim. The Dobro resonator on mine adds some swampy Delta tones, too. Can hardly wait to play it.

Back in the sixties, there was a group called the Hillsiders. I heard them at the Edison Tavern in Toronto. One of the guys had a wooden body dobro with a fivestring neck. He played scruggs style and got a wonderful sound.
