So I just received my new (to me) MSA Classic. And the case is in well...classic condition and has definitely seen better days.

I was wondering if anyone has taken it upon themselves to re-cover their steel case. I'm trying to avoid buying a new one, and I found this outstanding tolex pattern:

Any concerns, advice etc. would be much appreciated.

Be sure to clean the surface VERY WELL after you take of the old covering..I use DEnatured Alchahol and then lightly rough up the surface with a light sand paper..Use a good High Temp glue....Take your TIME ....Its really not that hard.... If I can help in any way just yell

Thanks David,
Yes, I imagine it's all in the prep work and getting rid of all the 30 something year old glue residue. I'll be replacing all of the hardware save the hinges.

I guess the thing i'm most concerned with is dealing with the seams, or trying to hide them. So if you have any thoughts or considerations about that, that would be huge.

Best,

Ian

Not sure of your case lining ,but on most they can be loosened about 3/8 - 1/2 inch and simply tuck the new covering in..be sure to glue this area good..you can put a few staples in for good measure..

Ian,
Google 'tolex recover' for a selection of good sites that take you through this step by step.
Regards (and say hello to my home town for me!)
