Hi, I'd like to introduce myself, i'm Eddie Byrne living in a small rural village in the west of Ireland, Cloonacool in County Sligo, i am a semi pro musician, gigging on a regular basis, usually a couple of nights a week, I have been gigging virtually non stop for 35 years, on lead guitar, mostly when based in Manchester, England, i progressed onto pedal steel guitar in 1990, though i had a few years break from steel 98-03, when i was gigging with a 60's[brit] style band, but the yearning to return to my first love, country music, was too strong, and i again purchased a Sho Bud LDG, and returned to playing country music, I moved to the west of Ireland in 2006, and quickly got gigging and making contacts on the very vibrant irish country music scene, doubling on lead guitar and pedal steel guitar, and it has has been a great move for me musically, as well as lifestyle, i play a Sho Bud pro 1, [day setup] a U.S. G&L asat special, my current preffered gigging set up is a Peavey Nashville 112[evm12L fitted] using two sessionmaster pre amps [guitar & steel] with a T.C.electronics processor into the fx loop, and Hilton vol pedal, I have been looking in for a good while on the SGF, and have now decided to participate, hopefully adding just a little to a great forum, i am a fairly recent new user of BIAB, and have learned a lot already from this forum, and still have a lot to learn regards all aspects of pedal steel guitar and recording, but i think im in the right place, i have gigged all over England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales, have toured Denmark, and in the last 12 months have visited Chicago twice, gigging with John Staunton from County Mayo, and another trip planned late April early May, anyway, its great to be on here, the home of the PSG, from my little outpost on the other side of the Atlantic, regards Eddie

Eddie, great to have you on board with the Steel Guitar Forum. A great place to meet the greatest people and obtain a lot of useful information. My Son visited Ireland a few years ago. My Wife's heritage dates back to Ireland. The O'daughtery family, so He had to go check it out. He was Knighted while he was there. Larry Baker _________________ Mullen G2 SD10 3 & 5 The Eagle

hi guys, thanks for welcome, thanks frank, im sure you are spot on, seems a great bunch of guys, and larry, i wonder what part of Ireland your son visited, 'O'Daughtery' not a common name by any means, the'o' prefix usually found more in munster/leinster regions, could have changed in time to O'Doherty or Doherty, i know spellings changed over the decades, often linked to illiteracy, happened in my own family tree and 'KNIGHTED?' that sounds interesting, as knighted more an 'anglo' link, anyway, thanks for welcome to SGF |

Welcome Edward, from the Sunny South USA. Some Irish in my family heritage away back, along with Scottish and English. Always wanted to visit dear old Ireland. Particularly would be interested in visiting area such as yours, the small country village scene, since I'm an old country boy myself. If I ever get there, I'll try to look you up. _________________ Mullen Lacquer SD 10, 3 & 5; Mullen Mica S 10 1/2 pad, 3 & 5; BJS Bars; LTD400, Nashville 112, DD-3, RV-3, Hilton VP . -- Gold Tone PBS sq neck; Wechter Scheerhorn sq neck. -- "Experience is the thing you have left when everything else is gone." -anon.- |

thanks guys, i feel at home already, just to put a face to the name, tho the bud is far better looking!
JCS! I WOULD SAY THERE ARE MORE MULLENS IN IRELAND THAN ANY OTHER BRAND, especially in the north, thanks in no small way to Ted Nesbitt of Rainbow Music, though the usual scattering of sho buds, emmons and carters, |

Hi Ed..
Welcome to the forum. I had the pleasure of playing steel in Ireland in the early seventies with a show group.."Murphy and the Swollows". Maybe before you time Had a great time there. Lots of country music. I was Jack Douglas back then. I guess I was too Irish for an Irish band. Again, welcome. |

Hi Micky, thanks for welcome, yeah maybe related somewhere along the line, Byrne is a very common name in Ireland, you obviously have Irish connections, been on your website and seen your recent post, your an inspiration, i recall reading your story of the 'Sho bud' restoration after it had been very badly burned in a house fire, would love to see them pics again 'before and after' another inspiring story,
Hi Jack, thanks for welcome, i dont recall that band, but then i would have been living in England all through the 70s, where were you based in Ireland? you are in a much warmer place now! |

I'd like to give a great big Florida welcome to Ed from Florida. My family came from Ireland many, many years ago, although we were all Protestants from Northern Ireland and some say we don't count... but from one mick to another, welcome to the Forum.
