Thanks Calvin. Little clarification: There are two cases, one for the legs, rods and pedals; and one case for the guitar itself. |

Did Chet make this to your order? If you aren't the original owner do you have an idea of the history and the age of this steel? He's a real nice guy; I've been considering having him build one for me but I'm real interested in yours. He just sold his demo model out of his shop; like yours except for George L66 pup.
Why the dual case anyway? Don _________________ Fender Champ, Gibson BR-9, Sho-Bud, MSA Classic |

Hey there Don, thanks for the interest. He did not make this for me. I believe I'm the 4th owner and my understanding is that its about 6 years old. Thats what the previous owner told me.
I bought it in a different case and it was sort of a beater. I've been playing out quite a bit and I figured I should probably get a better one and thats just what Jerry Fessenden had in stock. It works out nicely because you just make two trips and don't strain yourself as much.
Don, I'll send you a PM with my phone number so we can talk it over. |

I live 25 minutes from Chet. I actually bought the Blue guitar that was just mentioned that is identical to this one but it has the George L pickup in it.
Even though I dont want to sell it, I may be forced to sell it to keep peace in the house.
I already have a D10 and talked my wife into letting me purchase a Single neck less expensive guitar (on the lines of a carter starter) so I can take to rehearsals and church gigs... but I ran into Chet and bought it right then. Mine was built in 2009
Not trying to hijack this thread but these guitars are great!
I had him put an extra pull on mine - raising 2nd string from Eb to E on RKL.

Posted 16 Mar 2010 2:49 pm I have a few questions
|
|
New guy here and a greenhorn beginner. I am just starting to look for a PSG to learn on. Having read some comments on a couple starter units, this one may be a better option and seems to be a step or two or more above a starter unit and better quality. I like the pad and have been told that is a good thing starting out.
Is the builder available and are parts available should I need them??
If you are the fourth owner in six years, is everyone upgrading and is that a normal thing to do or what??
Thanks!! |

Hey John
This is definitely a solid guitar for a beginner. This was my first pedal steel guitar and I certainly enjoyed learning on it. As far as the difference between this and say a Carter Starter goes, I'm not really sure, to be honest, as I've never played one. But it seems to be the consensus around here that the Carter Starter is not the best deal out there.
Chet Wilcox is a member on this forum, though I've never spoken with him personally. I'd imagine you could get that info from him.
As far as four owners in six years goes, I think thats pretty standard for the beginner type guitars. I bought this guitar about a year ago on this forum and now my needs have changed a little. I'm playing in a pretty active band and I just need something lighter. I'll send you a PM with my phone number in it and I'd love to run you through this guitar over the phone. Thanks for the interest. |
