Hi! I have a Carter Starter Guitar with a Peavey Nashville 1000. So I feel like my steel may be a little inferior and my amp is a little too much. Use a Dunlop High Gain Volume Pedal (know not best). I am just beginning. Am I okay learning with this set up or will I need to upgrade my steel to get a better sound? Any thoughts?

I have no idea what chords I am using. How can you tell if need to replace or get better chords? Are there chords made specifically to handle demands of pedal steel? Average cost? Any thoughts?

Thanks for your help! matthew wilson

As for cables, I recommend George L's. Their cables are a solderless "make-your-own" kind of thing. You buy the ends and cable by the foot and put it together yourself, or you can buy premade kits. Their cables are a bit more expensive, but they have had excellent reviews for sound quality... and the best part for me is that when the cable starts to crackle because of a loose end, you can cut off half an inch and re-do the connection. I teach guitar in my local hometown here. I currently have 38 students weekly, so my cables got beat up pretty fast and I was always having to buy new cables every 6 months or so. A few years ago I bought a couple George L's cables and have been using the same ones since. Then when I started playing pedal steel, I bought a few more cables because I know they'll last me the next 25 years. Good customer service as well! ...PS. I'm not a salesman, I just really like the product Smile
