Good morning.
I had my new Mullen for around a year.
The sound was way to thin, for me.
Then rhey replaced the Mullen pickup with the
10-1.It sounded much better ,to me.
I was really happy when I bought the Fender steel amp.I even called Dixey and mentioned that the Mullen guitar sounded great with the fender Amp.

I too found the stock Mullen pickup a bit thin sounding, especially above the 12th fret. Also with it being a single coil it hummed a lot at gig volume.
I put some Bill Lawrence XR-16s in mine and love them. Still essentially the same sound but sustain comes that bit easier, and they produce a slightly fatter tone and seem less shrill high up the neck. Everything just seems more balanced. Oh and the pickups are very quiet. But being a humbucker that's the least you'd expect.
I don't find them especially bright pickups. A bit on the darker side, but I like that. They have a mellow quality to them. |

I had a Royal Precision for a while, and I found a way to improve the sound... I bought a G2! |

Mine is not a rp, but it is a Mullen! SD10 had a stock pup too, but it picked up too much hum and the tone lacked brilliance. I changed it to an E-66 and it sounds sweet now! Good thing because it barely fit! I had to cut the wide mount tabs off the E-66 and it fit real snug using the 3 end tab screws. I have about a hair more than a quarter's height between strings and pole, so its a bit on the hot side but I love it!

I have a Mullen SD-10 RP and considered swapping out the pickups, is that something that can be done by someone with the right tools and a little know-how? _________________ Mullen G2; Fender Tone Master Twin Reverb; Goodrich L-120 |
