Dont get the Morrell. Kinda junky nowadays. I would get the Gold Tone 8 string. A little more $, but has to be worth it. I would get one instead of new Morrell. Old lil Roys arent bad, but the new ones are ? Gold Tone.

I've got a Morrell 8..it ain't bad.Sometimes the Morrells can be hit or miss, unfortunately. I have a six and an eight.
But, you should look into a Dynalap kit, as it's close to the same price, and with a little assembly work and finishing it's a really great 8 string steel.
I love mine.

I've never tried a Allen-Melbert, but they seem like a good deal.

I would say the Dynalap, Allen Melbert and Gold Tone eight string steels are a better value than the Morrell, for just a bit more money.
There were some very fine West Coast Steel Guitars on display at the TSGA this past weekend, but they're much more expensive than the ones mentioned so far.

Avoid the Morrell if you can. I have had nothing but bad experiences with Morrell. I will second the opinion that you check out the Dynalap. Excellent product and value for the $$$$. Worth the few weeks wait.

My only complaint with the dynalap is the 60cycle hum from the single coil pickup...
