hello, thanks again for previous advice on my very recently acquired new yorker. does anyone know if the new yorker (ca. 1939/40) came with a particular matching amplifier?

In 1938 the only National amp model was just called "The National Amplifier" in the catalog, and it had a stamped cover plate over the speaker and a back that folded down into a stand:



By 1940 National had introduced the model B:



Either of these would be an appropriate match, but they're both very rare these days.

In the early 1990's I purchased a National New Yorker with it's original amp(theoretically). It is an Epiphone Electar Zephyr which appears to be the same amp pictured with Ben Keith on the Neil Young "Harvest" album. Hope this is helpful.
