I recently built myself a 3-space rack for my Alembic preamp, Stewart power amp and TC Electronic signal processor. This is the second version, using maple scraps left over from instrument construction. The open design allows the Stewart, which does not have a fan, to stay cool enough. Connections for all the electronics stay accessible. Setting up and packing up are relatively quick: The volume pedal stays wired up and slides into the bottom of the case, and the power cord and speaker wire coil up and slip in as well. The cover slips down over the rack like a sewing machine cover and also doubles as a speaker stand.
The solid handle on the speaker box (which I also built using scrap plywood that had been weathering out in the yard for years) turned out to be just the right height--when I put it on the stand upside down it balanced at just the correct angle to point right at my head.
