This is a scam that is going around the net. Someone you know is stuck at an airport somewhere and needs money. DON'T FALL FOR IT. Interesting that even though I know Bill Leff from posts he has made on the forum, I do not know him personally so there would be no reason for him to contact me.
BILL IS NOT INVOLVED IN THIS, ME EITHER!!! The thieves who do this crap just troll the net looking for email addresses and such and then hack in sites for info, which is what they have done here.
BEWARE BEWARE!!!
Here is the message that was sent to my email. The only way they would have gotten the info for this scam is from the STEEL FORUM site.
"Hi, I really don't mean to inconvenience you right now but I made a quick trip to London UK early this week and had my bag stolen from me in which contains my passport and credit cards. I know this may sound odd, but it happened very fast. I've been to the US embassy and they're willing to help me fly without my passport but I just have to pay for my ticket and settle some bills. Right now I'm out of cash and I can't access my bank without my credit card here, I've made contact with them but they need more verification. I was thinking of asking you to lend me some funds now and I'll pay back as soon as I get home. I need to get on the next available flight.
Please reply as soon as you can if you are OK with this so I can forward the details as to where to send the funds. You can reach me via May field hotel's desk phone if you can, the numbers are, 011447024051751 or 011447024043675 or via my blackberry at bill.leff@xxxxx.xxx"
Thanks
bill
I removed the email address for the blackberry so it would not be displayed here. |

Lol, I received the same email.
And I DO know Bill Leff. And, he is no where near the UK right now.

I got a similar message from Buddy Cage's email account, but without payment details. I answered back through my own address book, questioning the validity and got some rather nasty responses.
Nice. |

I KNEW this didn't feel right when I sent that money to Bill but the good news is it will soon be replaced from the money I'm getting from Mr. Umgotcha in Nigeria. _________________ Cops aren't paid much so I steel at night. |

Hello My Fellow steelers,
As I posted to Bill. I received my "request inquiry" this morning. My response was to the inquirer, "Before I respond to your inquiry, I must ask of you a two part security question." "(1)In what city was your wife born?" "(2)In what city did she grow up in?" I added, "If this is a legitimate inquiry, you will know, if not, I`ll know!" Needless to say there has been no response.
If all of the steelers who are contacted would respond with a question, or two, that only a close friend of Bill`s would probably ask, of this person(s), I`m sure he/them would soon abandon ship. The question(s) dont have to be true, just ask them as though they were!
To Bill, my prayers are with you!

These cons are very aggressive and don't limit themselves to email. Some will find out something about who your relatives are and will call you on the phone and say "This is Bobby, your grandson" . It might even sound like your grandson Bobby, after all maybe it's been years since you have talked to him (and since the cons play the numbers game, they eventually get someone who fits that situation). You hear poor "Bobby" tell you about the kind of jam he is overseas and just needs to get home(but please don't tell his parents, it is very embarrassing). Bobby sounds very desperate. What your poor 'Grandson Bobby" needs can be resolved by a wire-transfer ASAP. You might not fall for it, but plenty of folks do, typically for 1000's of dollars. Targeting the elderly, who may have retirement savings, and who may be a little more easy to deceive seems to be one strategy. Happened just a few weeks ago to a friend of my Mom's. This same scenario. When the reality set in that the victim had been conned, the victim couldn't believe how trusting they had been and felt like they were the stupidest person on the planet. They went to the police, but there are those who are too ashamed to admit they are victims. |

I got an email today about a Brazilian corporate president who was killed in a plane crash and left 56 mil. You know the rest. Thing was he had links to several news sources that were totally legit looking and in fact had the name listed as being killed in a plane crash, and when I went to the real site, it did have a headline that that person was indeed killed.
Course the real person wasn't exactly as the phisher described. These criminals are getting better. _________________ heavily medicated for your safety |

I have recieved a couple of machine-translated versions lately. Hilarious reading.
The translation of the email subject was spot on i think. It read, in Swedish: "Victim of cooperation!" _________________ 1983 Emmons D10 SKH, Carter SD10, Nashville 112, Session 500, ProfexII, Lapsteels, GT-Beard reso, guitars of all kinds...
