I like! Did a similar clone of a Champ a few years ago. Made it a 12" cab and piggyback. About 4-5 watts of pure tone. I had some old period correct transformers and decided to make a small rig for fun.

Ken: Would those be 6V6GTs for power out ? I can't recall what a pair of them would produce but if tone is what you're after, that could be the deal. I made myself an amp out of them last century but that was before they had 6L6s. Good tone but I was in a big band with a puny PA and I needed more. The next one had KT-66s as I was in England at the time. I also tried to switch my Fender Pro to the KT- series but the envelopes touched and I learned that lesson the hard way one night !!

Right on Ken !! If I had looked closer at the power transformer wiring, I should have guessed that ! Been around solid state too much I suppose !

Yes, at a whisper! I have a single-ended EL-84 amp set up for my steel at home right now. It stays clean with the volume below 2 1/2, and I sure don't hafta worry about bothering the neighbors! |

Thanks guys...outstanding Champ,Ken...my reasons for
getting into the project were:#1:Fun Factor...#2:
overdrive,by definition...in small home studio
settings,even a 5-15 W amp might come on way too
loud,and many of the 1-2 W "combos" on the market
are actually toys(plastic mini-replicas etc),but I
wanted a small,REAL,amp w/ trad vibes.McUtsi |
