I have an Ovation LX acoustic guitar with the OP Pro on board preamp. Nice unit, except now the low batt light stays on all the time, regardless of the condition of the battery, even a brand new one.
Out of warranty, of course. The repairman at Elderly told me the only fix would be to replace the entire unit for $250. Anyone have any other ideas? The preamp works fine, except for the maddening little red light that stays on.
And of course, there is no warning any more as to when the battery really is low. This preamp has always been a power hog and eats batteries pretty fast. _________________ www.johnlangmusic.com

John, I had the same problem with a Yamaha acoustic/electric classical guitar. It eventually quit altogether so I took it to my local guitar tech and just had the input jack wired direct to the piezo in the bridge and bought a Fishman preamp which I just set on my amp and run with a wall wart. Works fine that way and the Fishman was a lot cheaper than replacing the whole unit inside the guitar. I also have a steel string with a Martin Thinline pickup in it and I just use an A/B box to switch between the classical & the steel string.....JH in Va. _________________ Don't matter who's in Austin (or anywhere else) Ralph Mooney is still the king!!! |

The Ovation preamp is not worth fixing. Replace it with a Fishman. |

A vast percentage of those on-board pre-amps suffer
from premature failure,and they have a nasty way of
absorbing vibration & rattling from time to time ;
outboard electronics means more versatility & less
time spent at guitar repair shops.McUtsi |
