Hey Billy, Someone brought up an old thread about you with a video and it made me want to start this one! I've known you for a lot of years but have never really known anything about your formative years on the steel guitar. I think a lot of us on the Forum might like to know some things about you such as How old were you when you took up the steel, what made you decide to play steel guitar as opposed to standard guitar, who were your influences, what guitars you've had and played, and any other trivia about yourself you'd like to share with us. Since I first met you in the sixties in SoCal, you've been one of my favorite players and I've always admired the way you can go effortlessly between the necks even right in the middle of a solo! How about some info for some of the others here who might not be as familiar with your playing as I am. I was fortunate to have heard you live in California for many years.......JH in Va. _________________ Don't matter who's in Austin (or anywhere else) Ralph Mooney is still the king!!! |

I asked for similar info when he joined up, but maybe he is bashful. I'd like to hear the whole story and some of his playing. |

Mr. Tonneson,
I haven't ever replied in one of your threads, but always watch them. You are one of the players that bridge the gap between "then" and now. You seem to have a tremendous memory for what was going on "in the day"; please consider filling us in on your story. I'm 39 years old, and know one steel player from your era. There's a whole lotta value to "us" in who you are, and what you've done.
Of course, I would not ask more of you than you already give; please forgive my brash statements i they offend. _________________ RICK ABBOTT

I will be working on a post this coming week. I was lucky enough to be in the So. Caliornia music scene most of my life. I'm not ignoring you guys but I have Macular Degenation in my eyes and it takes a little longer to get a draft worked up of what I want to post. One doesn't realize until you start looking back of all the phases one goes through in
one's musical career. I want to thank Jerry and everyone for their interest. |

For those who haven't heard Billy T. play, you're in for a treat. He probably has had the longest active career of any steeler I've ever known and has kept up pretty much on what's current and can play anything you throw at him.....JH in Va. _________________ Don't matter who's in Austin (or anywhere else) Ralph Mooney is still the king!!! |
