| Boss came out with some pedals that model the vintage bassman (fbm1) and deluxe reverb (fdr1) amps. Does anyone know if you could plug one of these straight into a direct box without using an amp whatsoever? it would be nice to leave my amp at home if I am playing somewhere through their board |

| I have the FDR-1 and it is a nice pedal for guitar but for steel i wasn't crazy about it. Boss has the Deluxe copied alright but the pedal is designed to break up a little and so you don't get that real clean sound. If anybody knows how to use it clean please tell me. |

For Steel, you want to use the BOSS/Fender FBM-1 ’59 Bassman Unit.

| Try a Tech 21 Character series pedal. The Blonde would be the Fender equivalent. I recently picked up a Liverpool model to be able to plug into the fx loop of my Nashville 112 and just bring one amp to some gigs. It sounds pretty good. I ran my guitar into my pedals , then into the Liverpool pedal, into my fx processor, and then into the fx return of the NV112.I was able to dial in a sound that came pretty close to my Matchless Spitfire. If you were going direct, you would need a reverb device as well. |

This is interesting...
Has anybody tried the Tech21 Blonde for pedal steel ?
Like James, I would also like to put together a small DI setup. If you can get a cleanish Fender tone out of the Blonde, I would only need to add my rev and delay pedals for a really compact rig. The Blonde has cab simulation too!
