I've always loved crime fiction and film noir, so Harlem Nocturne is the perfect soundtrack. I'm playing the tune with my Ricky Frypan (Little Ricky), using a C6th tuning. The backing track was generated with BIAB. Hope you enjoy the arrangement! http://www.hsga.org/new_design/ChuckLettes.htm#harlemnocturne

Chuck - I enjoy all of your arrangements. As a matter of fact, I downloaded all of your tunes from the HSGA site and have your music on a heavy rotation every morning as my first-graders come in the door. Hope you don't mind that I'm sitting down and playing along with my fry pan to all of the songs. The students really love it.

I love this song and have always wanted to do it. Except I didn't play sax. Thanks for showing it can be done for steel. Great.

Chuck,

You know, I have been wondering about this tune for months/years, imagining how it would sound on steel....now you've shown the way. I enjoyed your interpretation: choice of notes, the tone and the setting/background, the 50's slant....

Bravo!

Kay

Hey Chuck!

Great tune and arrangement, this tune is one that I"ve done on uke for years but for some reason never made the leap to put it onto steel.

Really enjoyed it, as with all your stuff!

Warm regards,

Josh

Chuck,THANKS for that. Brings back great memories. In the late 50's played a club a long time that had two floor shows a night,A different showgirl each week. The girls would bring their music with them for their show. A LOT of them used Harlem Nocturne and Caravan in their show. Great arrangment you have. YOU BETCHA,DYK?BC.

Thanks for the positive feedback, guys. I know I'm probably preaching to the choir, but I love the sound of the lap steel. Its distintive tone works for so many styles of music, especially tunes with strong melodies. I hope to see some of you at the Dallas show next week.

Sounds great, Chuck. I enjoyed that. Tell me, how did you do the melodic string fills etc. on BIAB?

Will miss ya in Dallas. See you down the road.

That was wonderful, Chuck!

I was thinking a while ago that would make a very cool steel tune. Glad to hear your excellent arrangement.

Again, thanks for the nice comments. I originally worked up Harlem Nocturne on the E9th pedal steel, but I wanted to strip it down a bit to bring out the melody. I naturally went to the six string lap steel to get the sound that I wanted. I'm glad that you are enjoying the arrangement.
