My new Blackjack Custom from the Jackson Steel Guitar Company. E9th, 3 and 5, on a 1/2 pad frame.
http://jacksonsteelguitar.com/
Thanks to David Jackson for the marvelous deep crimson stain and clear lacquer finish.
Has the old-style club, spade, heart and diamonds on the fretboard like the classic Sho-Bud fretboards of yesteryear!
I asked David Jackson to add an E raise on RKL 2nd string, and a split F#/G lower on RKL 6th string. This is a pretty standard Emmons setup with the exception of the 6th string split.
Excellent customer service from David Jackson and his daughter, Dawn, via email and phone, both during the build process, and after delivery for answers to some questions.
Peterson StroboFlip tuner shown.
This tuner has a built-in PSG Jeff Newman E9th temperament (E's 9.8 cents sharp).
Also has another built-in PSG temperament tuning (E's 0.00 cents).

Sweet guitar, Jon! The Blackjack Custom SD10 actually evolved from a prototype David built for me last year. I wanted a Blackjack with a pad, but it turned out to not be as easy as it appeared. The rounded nature of the Blackjack's back apron needed to be changed, and the first one David built for me still had the rounded edges - which made it hard to fit much of a pad on the guitar. By squaring off the edges, the pad can now be bigger and more like a conventional SD10 or at least a half-pad design. I saw Tim Sergeant's sunburst BJ Custom in Dallas, and Harry took me over to it and said, "There's your design, Chris. It's one of our most popular models now." I can't take credit for a design that was inevitable, but it sure was fun being involved in it! _________________ Jackson Steel Guitars

Jon, that's a beauty. I'll bet you're pretty happy. I'm also considering a Black Jack. I spoke with Dawn and yes she is great to deal with. I've contacted a few manufacturers and I was put off by their reluctance to be helpful. What's up with that?
Mind a few questions?
How long from order to delivery?
Any hum issues with the single coil?
Have you found the sound you're looking for or still tweaking? Thanks. |
