Going along with a topic posted elsewhere on this Forum........dealing with the issue of VIBRATO.... I tho't I might mention a great example of it for all to enjoy and later discuss. THAT is, if you care for JERRY BYRD's style of music.

By going to "JERRY's MUSIC" page on the jerrybyrd-fanclub.com/ site, you can enjoy an oldie by Clyde Moody on King label. The song "If YOU Only Knew" has long been a favorite of mine and JERRY BYRD does an exceptional job of making the steel guitar back-up and solo work, quite memorable. It's an excellent example of how one great steel guitarist chose to enhance his playing style and the music that he played.

A direct link to the JBFC site can be located beneath my signature at the bottom of this post.

Ray,

What's with all this Jerry Byrd stuff anyway? ......Why don't you just wake up and get stuck in the 1970's like the rest of us! Very Happy

I'm glad there is a website for the Jerry Byrd Fanclub. The more time I spend with my steel the more I recognize how unbelievably nuanced Jerry Byrd's playing is.

No problem. It was just a humerous observation about the steel community in general. Not intended as harassment.

The operating phrase is "stuck in the 1970's, like the rest of us", followed by a smiley face. I thought you Brits were famous for having a droll sense of humor and appreciation of irony Rolling Eyes

I don't see any "harassment", just some light kidding that I'm sure Ray is big enough to handle. Clearly Tony's remarks were aimed equally at "the rest of us" "stuck in the 1970s". That was a funny shot.

Got to see Jerry Byrd only once in 1987 on the Patio of one of the upscale Hotels at Waikiki. He had a trio, Bass, Rythm Guitar and Himself. The group played very subdued, It might have been for atmosphere for the Elite Guests. It was an afternoon gig. His playing was very pleasing. He stood up to what I think was a double neck shobud without pedals. We talked briefly but did not go back to any of the old days. They were playing more pop standards than Hawiian music.
