So,,,,is Carter just closing the doors,,,calling it quits?? Seems like one of the other "not as big" steel manufacturers would come in, merge with their own product and move forward? Maybe te economy is just not right,,,or maybe Ann doesn't want to sell???
I wish someone like Johnny Cox,,or,,??? would take over and keep it going,,,, |

I would think that Ann is not in a position to even think about that right now and I can't imagine anyone even broaching the subject with her yet. maybe sometime in the future... _________________ www.JimCohen.com

Why would they be closing? Has something happened? |

WOW, IT JUST GOES TO SHOW WHAT CAN HAPPEN AND IN A
SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME. I AM SO DEEPLY SADDENED FOR
THE FAMILY AND THE WHOLE STEEL GUITAR COMMUNITY. A
VERY TRAGIC LOSS, FOR ALL OF US. |

Not to sound mean or anything, but there are already 2 posts created by Ann Fabian on this subject. I think it would be more appropriate to post your thoughts there.
HERE'S ONE
HERE'S THE OTHER
We really don't need any more than this. I realize some don't look at the forum very often, but it's hard to believe that anyone on the forum for the last month has not seen these. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . Richard, you must realize that not everyone checks the forum on a weekly basis, let alone daily as many of us do including myself. Johnny's question was legitimate and I felt deserved a response & the best way was point the link to the topic, given the wording of the initial post by Sonny "So,,,,is Carter just closing the doors,,,calling it quits??"
I'm guilty as one that reads the forum most often daily be it a quick breeze thru or spending a considerable amount of time reading & parusing, time permitted.
I saw Ann's initial post when she first posted and only three replies had been submitted. I was shocked & yet saddened at Ann's loss. |

I checked Johnny Baker in the members list. Joined the forum Sept 10th 2008. Since then he has posted 37 times. Obviously he does not check the forum very often so YES he could have missed those other posts very easily.

I seen on Bobbe's newletter (I think) that somebody in Canada had bought the Carter company and all it's inventory and is in the process of getting everything sorted out and will start back selling the guitars and parts in April sometime. Ann wrote back to me with some info about as I'm going to get a few parts for mine when it reopens. The newsletter or Ann didn't say who it was and it could be anybody but my guess is Al Brisco. I don't have any inside info and am only guessing but he's been in the business a long time and has a music/steel guitar store for well over 20 years and is about as likely as anybody to be the one to take it over. I'm surprised Bobbe didn't jump all over this company as they've been about the most purchased guitar around for quite some time and they make a fine instrument. I'm equally surprised somebody hasn't taken over the Derby brand yet too. Now if it has been taken over, I just haven't heard anything about it but they make a great guitar as well. As it stands I'll stick with the Carter for a while longer and we'll soon find out more on this subject. |

Richard, for the last few weeks I haven't spent a lot of time in the forum and this is the first I've of heard this.

I've closed this topic to avoid spreading any rumors based on wild speculation. I'm sure that there will be some kind of formal announcement in due time. _________________ -𝕓𝕆𝕓- (admin) - Robert P. Lee - Recordings - Breathe - D6th - Video |
