To my knowledge, I’m offering the first authorized biography of the life and times of a musician/steel guitar player who is recognized around the world. Being a steel guitar enthusiast and a member of the Forum, I soon became aware of Reece Anderson. As time went on, I started to read all of his posts. Then, I read his personal articles and became fascinated by his ability to communicate with the professional, intermediate, and the beginner players. That is when my curiosity as a published writer took over.
In early 2008, I ordered some learning material from Reece. Before long I started emailing him to ask questions about problems I was having. Soon, by necessity, our correspondance turned into phone conversations. During one conversation I asked Reece if he had ever considered writing a book about his life. He paused and said “no…not really.” It was then I told him I was a writer and asked if he would consider my writing a book about his life. After a moment of silence he said he would consider it.
A few days later during another phone conversation, he said he would be happy to have me write his biography. Then, in late August, we had the opportunity to meet for the first time at Scotties IPSG Convention. I told him at that time that in order for me to write his biography, I would have to know him, better than he knew himself. He smiled and agreed. So I began to explore his life and I soon found his story to be very fascinating and entertaining. It is then that I came to the conclusion that if others read it, they would share my feelings.
After working with Reece for the past year and a half, I’ve learned many things about the man that I, nor others were aware. He is dedicated, inspirational, private, amusing, and downright funny. Also, he is a man of his word. He has been willing to share very personal experiences with me. Thus, I relate stories in his biography about his family, his best, worst, and funniest playing jobs, his friends, his experiences while in the military, his flying experiences, and his faith.
I truly believe you will find "Man of Steel" very enjoyable. And, it comes with a compilation of 20 songs recorded in the past on CD in which Reece explains when and where the recordings took place, and who played on the sessions.

Thanks for reading,

Sidney,
Thanks for your kind words. There are 22 chapters in the book, each of which offer an indepth look into Reece's musical career and personal life. Chapter 1, "The Growing Years," establishes the tone of the book by sharing the reasons why the PSG was Reece's instrument of choice. The following chapters cover his playing experiences, Army life, Europe, MSA, funny stories, anecdotes, and much more. Plus, there's a 20 cut music CD with Reece introducing each song. He also explains why and where it was cut, and he shares the names of each musician playing on it. I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Fred |

The book sounds like a must read! Fred, are you by chance a relative of David Wright? Reece has always been David's hero. I recall he was working for Mr. Anderson setting up new horns prior to the final tweaking before delivery. That is if my synapses are firing correctly. |

Steve,
Thanks for your "must read" comment! No, I'm not directly related to David. However, we Wright's are all descendents of five Wright brothers who moved to the US from England in 1600. In fact, I'll be meeting David for the first time in Dallas. Fred
David,
What a coincidence with your post just below Steve's. I look forward to meeting you in Dallas. As far as my writing Reece's biography, it has been a privilege and an honor. Too little is writen about the Pedal Steel Guitar, let alone the great Masters. We need more publicity, and I hope this book will contribute to generating interest and a resurgence in this beautiful instrument. |

Fred, thank you for the reply. It's great when you can trace your genealogy and come up with definitive answers regarding your ancestors and their/your lineage. My lineage goes back to Scotland. They belonged to the Ulster Clan and my name supposedly translates to "Rolling Stones Against Their Aggressors. I hope they weren't a little daft. Boy, they sure would be impressed with present day defenses.
Hey David, great to hear from you bud. How you been? Yes, getting ready to relocate from the Late Great Golden West to Idaho come July. This state is but a faint resemblance of what once was one of finest locations on the planet. I know I am preaching to the choir David because we had a similar conversation a couple years ago. Please get hold of me sometime if you have time. I lost all my numbers when we switched to AT&T Cellular. Love to hear from you brother. Take care............ Steve |

Ray,
Wait until he sees me. He might want to change his name! Fred
Steve,
Researching my geneology is what started my writing seriously. Years ago, my grandmother told me that my grandfather's father committed suicide at age 40. Once I researched the facts, and found out the gruesome details, I was disturbed by the fact I didn't know anything about the man who contributed to my existence. The more I thought about it, I came to the conclusion that I couldn't do that to my descendants. So, I began writing my memoir to give my family, present and future, a chronology of my life from birth to today. [Something I'm convinced everyone should do.] That moment has brought my writing to where I am today. Fred |

I totally agree Fred. Honoring their existence and keeping the legacy alive. A tribute of sorts. Speaking of that; I just wrote Ernie Renn this morning hoping that he might confer with Buddy regarding his personal memoirs. To write an authorized bio or autobiography which would be even better. Furthermore, I told him that I felt in the Emmons tradition, a hardcover book, maybe even leather bound with the cover of the Black Album detailing his life would instantly become a coffee table classic! Man, I believe it would be a Best Seller. I realize Buddy is in retirement, and th last thing he needs is some nut hounding him (meaning me)about his life, but what better time than this to put together (at his leisure)his life's story. Sure hope it materializes. Take care Fred |
