Hi John,
Duffs has a good mailing list that they update monthly, so be sure to get your website to them so they can copy it into their email list (I'll send you a copy of this months).
Also, Be sure to send them posters to put up. Most bands have several posters (usually cool retro looking stuff) inside the room and restrooms, advertising upcoming dates.

You could also get on this site: http://www.swingandcountry.com/must_see_music_in_portland.htm
You could follow that site to the guy that runs it (Frederick, email: sfrederic@qwest.net) and maybe get some airplay (and maybe a live interview/performance) on KBOO (local community radio). They are pretty friendly to that type of stuff.

Also, make sure you are listed in the Willamette Week: http://www.wweek.com/
Check out the "Music" and "Headout" sections, as well as the "Musicians Market" in the classifieds.

Also, make sure you are listed in the Oregonian A&E section of the Friday paper if possible. http://www.oregonlive.com/music/ (Note the "Submit a Listing" button).

There is also The Mercury, which is a little more rocked out, but here it is: http://www.portlandmercury.com/current/

The Portland "Craigslist" is usually pretty active as well (see the "Musicians" section): http://portland.craigslist.org/

Hope this helps!
Pete B.

ps
Let me know when you are playing there.

thanks for the info, peter, i'll put it to good use.
we're playing there thursday, may 26th. we like to play at the folklife festival in seattle, and it's always a challange trying to book gigs to support the trip.
