I have a very informal trio gig coming up this Saturday afternoon at 2pm in the Chestnut Hill section of Philly: pedal steel, upright bass and guitar. The guitarist, Jim Dragoni, was, for many years, a student and colleage of Dennis Sandole, the renowned Philadelphia music teacher of Pat Martino and John Coltrane, among others. I'm really looking forward to playing a gig with him!

Hope to see some smiling Forumites in the crowd this coming Saturday. Further info below (please excuse the hyperbole in the poster; you know how those 'marketing' folks are...)

Wish I could be there. Hey, my Uncle Jack lives near the intersection of West Allens Lane and Germantown Ave, a little over a mile away. He likes to play trumpet and I think still plays in a swing band from time to time.

Hey, Colm. Tell Jack to come on by. That's very close to this gig (and in my old neighborhood, too). I'd like to meet him anyway. What's his last name? Maybe I have met him already?

Jim always has a nice smile while he's performing, and that's a plus. His smile echos
his playing as it comes through great.

Others should smile as Jim does. I know I try
but after hearing myself play I cry.

Would like to catch the gig Jim, but I am not able to do so at this time, but I'll catch up with you sometime soon buddy.

I wish I could make it, I want to see what a $7 refreshment is !

Jim, why don't you just come down to Charlotte and get a gig, it would be much easier for us folks in NC to attend !

Wish I could make it. I love Jim's cd's and I found out in Dallas there were no studio tricks, he sounds just as good live. BTW, if you ever get to Louisiana come by my house, I have some seven dollar refreshments too.

Jim-Congratulation! Way to go. You are going to open some eyes at how nice a steel guitar can sound in a different Venue, and you are the guy that can do it.....al

Break a leg, Buddy. I'd sure like to hear you in the trio format- perhaps you can turn it up enough so we can hear it between sets here at the Dogwood festival?

My wife tells me I've been in there before, but I sure can't recall the interior. All I know is that it's a large Cathedral, and when not having services there, they make it available for concert rentals, etc. I think it's a pretty large space.

Jim I wish I could be there Saturday, but I will be working. Hopefully, the Friday warm-up will put you in the right spirit. The Cathedral is behind Penn. A very cool venue.

The steel should sound great!

Hey Jon, looking forward to seeing you Friday. We're actively working on a restaurant recommendation, as we haven't eaten in So. Philly for a few years (but we'd love to).

Wow! Richard, you wrote a song for MOI?? How flattering (well, maybe I should wait till I hear it to say any such thing... LOL!) Perhaps it's an instrumental, full of my worn-out bebop cliches? Well, send it on over!

Peter, alas, no, Bob is not on this gig, but if you're in the area, Bob will be playing with our band, Beats Walkin' on April 16 with the Philadelphia Classical Symphony backing us up.

David, we'll be playing mainly jazz and pop, not really "western swing" per se. And the location is no longer Hideaway Music (tho' their sign is still above the door); they moved further down the hill to a new location. The Music Studio entrance is from the parking lot on Evergreen Ave, just off Germantown Ave.

And, Red, I wish you could be there too!
