Hi I have just joined the forum and thought I would say Hi..
I am totaly new to steel guitar.
I have purchased a lap guitar not an expencive one ( I know the old mistake) ((if I get on well with it and up grade by the time I have a decent one it will of cost twice as much as getting a good one to start))
I am going to need all the help advice I can get.
Dare I say it Im into country music as well as a lot of modern stuff.
When I say Country music more to the older stuff (Slim whitman and the like) johnny Cash is great for keyboard. but I dont think will go on steel
I play keyboard and a little acustic and electric when i say a little a few songs riff's
Steel guitar has always been at the back of mind for years, Im from the dinosaur ages.And now took the plung..

Hi Brad Thanks for the welcome..
I received my steel today then i found out I needed a different tuner than that Ive been useing for the guiter,
I purchesed a Boss TU-80 and was 2 hrs trying to fathem it out. I THINK I got C6 open strings C E G A C E at 440 to be honest I am finding it difficult to understand. I think i need to mess around with it to see if Im useing it right..what tuning should I be useing to play country stuff ?
I had a book that came with it but very little about tuning and no manual to say what strings are on there. so would be greatful for any help..And of cause because the strings are new as soon as I have finished go back and check they are out of tune again cause they have streached ( I think it is anyway..
The book is by DeWitt Scott has a cd with it for play along tunes ( they souned nice to me )But not realy any instructions. a section of rudiments of music that's what the book call's it. I think it's going to be a long Night. I think Im going to be glued to this forum for the forseeible future.I have read loads of post's trying to find out all I can..before I read the forum I thought C6TH was a new explosive.. Thanks again any advice will be welcome

Hi Tom. looking at the lap I received I am disipointed at the quality and the over all make up.
I know it was quite cheep.
so in the not to distant future I think I will be making my own. parts are not too bad over here timber on the other hand might be a problem to get some decent stuff. I was a carpenter before I finished work, so I know some of the rubbish that comes into this country, and it has always been difficult to get decent hard woods but I might have a look around.
and practice with this one. at the mo not going too good having trouble with the string blocking thing
but will get there eventualy ( I hope )
