A friend is giving me some tracks. He uses PC, I use Mac. I purchased a new Drive which is for PC but can be re-formatted to Mac. How is the best way to get the tracks from PC to MAC. Thanks,

If the drive is already formatted for PC, keep it that way. You should be able to plug it into your Mac and read it directly. Your friend should also be able to plug into the drive and read it directly (not at the same time, of course).
Macs will read PC formatted drives, but PCs won't read Mac formatted drives without special software. _________________ Brad’s Page of Steel

I just returned from a trip to England. My computers are all Windows XP. I took along a USB Hard Drive and had no difficulty exchanging information with Basil Henriques' computer, which is a Mac. |

If the drive is formatted for the FAT filesystem, you can leave it as that. If it's NTFS, then you will be able to read the drive but not write to it.
To format as FAT32, go to Disk Utility, click on the drive and then choose the "Erase" tab, "MS-DOS (FAT)" in the drop-down list, and click the Erase button.
Or download and install NTFS-3G for Mac:

Again, if you only need to read from the disk, you're fine either way. |
