First off: My apologies if this is in the wrong section. Mods, feel free to move if incorrectly posted.
Long time lurker, 1st (technically second) time poster.. I figured I'd say hello since I dropped the exorbitant amount of money to join!
I have been playing a 6 stringer for 25 years but in the last 5 years, I added a p/w bender (b-bender to be exact) to one of my teles. This got me hooked on bending.. I am (but haven't been for a while) a member on the tele board.. (and one about labrador retrievers), so perhaps you unknowingly have run across me if you frequent those places..
I have been enjoying the steel sound for a long time and took the plunge only 3 or 4 years ago. I putter around on an old MSA Sidekick. While it is a student model, it works pretty well and stays in tune okay.. I have recorded it on a couple of albums and it is quite nice sounding. (Am I in the market for a different steel, yes...) While I am not very good (nor will I ever be), I really enjoy playing steel and am quite serious about getting right.
When my friends ask me about how I like it compared to guitar, I always say it's like golf: it mentally and physically drains you, there are good days and bad days, it's frustrating yet enlightening, and you really can't play it well drunk (though I have never tried)...
In the several years I have been lurking here, I have found it to be a treasure trove of information. While I doubt that I could add anything to the knowledge pool, I appreciate that I can take a dip and not sully the waters.
So, my "quick" hello and thanks to all of you... |

I think once you dip in you will come back for more Chris. That was my experience and I too am a guitarist who loves steel a lot better than I sound on one. Come on in and sit a spell! You've come to the right place. _________________ Emmons S10, p/p, Nashville 112, Zion 50 tele style guitar, Gibson LP Classic w/Vox AC30, Fender Deluxe De Ville and a Rawdon-Hall classical |
