Hello steelers! I bought a new Sho-Bud Professional back in 1971 at age 17, played for 10 years, then sold it and got my first banjo. I never could completely shake the steel urge and so I bought a Morrell lap steel several years ago. Now I've decided to once again take the plunge, and I ordered a new Stage One steel (discovered by reading the Forum's classifieds). It's all I've been able to think about lately, I can't wait to sit behind a steel guitar once again. I still have my 1975 copy of Winnie Winston's Pedal Steel Guitar (also the floppy record) and hopefully I'll be able to recall some of the basics.
Wow, so much has changed since I gave up steel in 1981. I've got a lot of catching up to do. The Forum is very similar to Banjo Hangout where I spend a lot of my time, it seems like a great way to gain information and support. I look forward to "reading the mail" though it will take a while before I can contribute anything intelligent!
Regards,
Allan Jirik |

Welcome Allan, I know you'll find plenty here and the members are so helpful. I had an early version of the Stage One (Mine was labeled Zum Steel) it was great. I sold it to a gentleman in Hawaii and it is baskinng on the beach today. (I hope) lol

Allan, your red Stage One is leaving here tomorrow morning along with the Hilton pedal, so maybe you will have it by the weekend. As luck would have it, this is an absolutely killer sounding guitar!! It has that big throaty growl on the low end that we love so well. They all have quite a bit of it but this one has more than its' share for some reason. I darn near kept it....but it's easy to see that it will have a good home. Thanks, and welcome to the forum. _________________ Doug Earnest

sometimes the steel forum goes down...the reason it takes a day or so to fix is because b0b is too absorbed over at the banjo hangout. |

Doug, thanks for parting with the killer red Stage One. I'm really anxious to get started with it. I've been absorbing all the great players on YouTube while I wait for it.
I took lessons from a guy named Billy Clark, the son of Casey Clark. He was a fabulous steel player. If I'm not mistaken, Buddy Emmons played steel for Casey in Detroit when he was first cutting his chops. |
