I'm in Bakersfield, CA for the weekend & do have reservations at the Crystal Palace tonight (Friday) but was wondering if there was anyone else playing around town this weekend I could go see. I'm only assuming that Buck will have steel in the band tonight. I guess there's another band that plays after his too. |

Steve Davis & Stampede are probably picking after Buck (if he makes it). I've picked with Steve whenever I was in town out there. Great fun. Stan is his guitar player and also doubles on steel. I've never heard him though, on steel, but on guitar he's a real good player.. Terry Christofferson is Buck's steeler/guit player. He also is manager of the club.
Larry Petree picks around town quick a bit, and with my nephew Sean some. Give Sean a call, tell him I suggested it, at 661.747.8035. Also, tell Steve and the guys hi.......
Have a great time !!!

Terry does a fine job playing pedal steel ... he plays like Moon and like Tom when the tune calls for it.
I would love to see him play again ..I haven't seen him play in like 14 years or so.. |

Last time I talked to Larry he was working at the Rock and Rodeo on Fridays. It's just on the other side of Hwy 99 from the Crystal Palace. But I know they've had some other bands in there lately.
Terry C is fun to watch switching from PSG to 6-string. Last time I saw him, he was playing a single neck PSG and one of those Steinberger type guitars that are really small. I didn't get very close.
Is Buck playing? Last I knew he was pretty sick and wasn't playing much. Larry?
Both the Crystal Palace and the Rock and Rodeo and worth checking out, if you happen to be stuck in Bakersfield, California. (Not that Madera or Fresno are any more hip)[This message was edited by Ben Slaughter on 25 March 2005 at 02:05 PM.] |

Thanks for the replys. The girl on the phone that took our reservations said that Buck would be playing at 7:30. I'll go by that other place too. Pretty convieniant cause I'm in the big truck and can park it at the Palace. |

Terry is a quiet person but is very aproachable, especially if you let him know you play stee also. Tell him Bill Bailey said hello. Good luck.

Terry sounded great. He was playing out of a twin & I think his steel was a Sierra. Anyway it was keyless. We were seated in the balcony to the side so I couldn't tell for sure. When they wrapped it up I went down to say hi but they were outta there. Buck seemed to have a lot of fun. He was full of energy & put on a show. |

Saw Terry a yr. or so back at the Palace, Done an outstanding job on both steel, and guitar. Got some good pics, but all film, don't know what to do with them to post them.

.....and last night we went by "Muggs" and got to listen to Larry Petree play all night with "Justin McWilliams & Nightlife". What a pleasure! Larry taught me a couple of things too (thanks again Larry). He offered for me to sit in but he uses the Day set-up and I've made that mistake before! |
