Dave and Stanley, now there's a couple of real chatterboxes. You could sit between the two of them the entire trip up and back to Cannon Dam Opry and neither of them may say more than a half dozen words. Both are great players and walking testaments of how good country music is played. My wife worked with Stanley at Denny Hilton's Opry in the Lake of the Ozarks area back in the early 70s and their band made an album that stood up with the best of them. My wife said the oldest member of the band wasn't over 26 years old at the time, which I believe would have been steel guitarist, Myron Smith. I sure wish I could get a CD of that recording.
As for Dave, he's as good as they get. Great singer and bass player, just an amazing amount of talent and makes it all look effortless. Without a doubt I learned more about playing live music at Bradley's with Dave, Sonny Clark, Mike Smith, and Bradley Rigby than I had learned in all my previous years prior. Bradley used to lean over on stage sometimes when we were pickin' and say, "Listen to them three, that best rhythm section in the whole country," and I agree, they were.

YUP KENNY I FEEL PRETTY FORTUNATE I WORK WITH DAVE EVERY SUNDAY AND STANLEY HE'S GREAT WE WORKED THE LAST TWO SEASONS TOGETHER ON THE OZARK OPRY. PLUSSS HE IS MY COUSIN. WHAT RECORDING ARE YOU REFERRING TO?

I imagine it was recorded around 1972 at Bradley's Barn, Nashville, but I am not absolutely sure. My wife played fiddle on the album, but wasn't included in the photo on the album cover and I don't believe she got album credits either, but Stanley can attest to the fact she played on the album. I don’t know Hilton, so I am not sure why she wasn’t included in the photo or why she didn’t get album credits. All I know is our copy of the album is scratched to the point that it sounds pretty bad and I would like to have a compact disc for our personal listening. My wife has a cut of Bonaparte’s Retreat on the album, Stanley had a cut of a Buck Owens’ instrumental, and Myron Smith had what sounded like a Lloyd Green instrumental, but it may have been something of his own. Just a darned good album, especially when a person considers the ages of all the band members. One other thing, Pig Hargus Robbins played piano on the session incase it would help jog Stanley’s memory. If Stanley or your have any idea how I could get a copy of the album on CD please e-mail me, I would be glad to buy a copy, even 4 or 5 copies.
Also, I saw the photo you had posted of Ross Hall, it is a good likeness of Ross and it’s hard to imagine that he’s gone. Ross and his wife Carol were regulars at Bradley's and he really liked western swing.
