Can anyone name singers from the 1940s & 1950s that were not quite household names. (non-Grand Ole Opry singers)

Tommy Collins,Leroy Van Dyke, Wynn Stewart. etc, etc.

Charles:
You mentioned Ole Rasmussen. I worked with Ole from 1945 thru 1952 when I was drafted. Ole was the Band Leader and did not sing. The great singer with the Band was Teddy Wilds on the Capitol Recordings. Other great singers in the 40's were Tommy (Spike) Doss, Dickie McBride, Terry Preston AKA: Ferlin Husky, Sammy Masters. This was a West Coast band and relativily unknown in the East.

I must have lived in a different house, because so far most all the names listed, are the singers I grew up listening to.

HI ALVIN,

In my experience, being born and raised in S.W. Minnesota, in a small town with a population of 2,000 there wasn't much in the way of Country Music available to me.

At the age of 17 I was very fortunate to have attended the Kitty Wells show, in a neighboring town 40 miles away. Johnny & Jack, plus Marvin Rainwater were also on this show.

I was raised, in the '60s, by dustbowl okies and farmers that migrated to California. They played and listened to nothin' but hillbilly music. I always felt very blessed for that.

Mr. Billy,Did'nt Tommy Duncan work with Ole's Nebraska Cornhuskers for awhile ? Some of the people I listed were not well known here in the south where I was raised . I lived near you a couple of years in Fullerton in the 50's,that's how I got exposed to a lot of the West coast music. Used to love the Spade Cooley show and Town Hall Party. YOU BETCHA,DYK?BC.

Charles:

After Tommy Duncan gave up having his own Band he made guest appearances with many Bands and Shows.
Tommy worked primarily on Ole's band when we would do one nighters in Central California and the Bay Area. Ole's Band was advertised with Tommy Duncan and together we would get great crowds. Also around 1950 Tommey used Ole's Band (including me) on his Intro Label recordins (two sessions of four tunes each). Ole did not participate in these recordings other than giving his blessing.

Ral Donner - "You Don't Know What You've Got"?[written by Doug Lapham, way before he became known as Barnswallow Farquahr, as a member of "The Fabulous Farquahr"]

Maybe early sixties. He, along with Terry Stafford ["Suspicion"], were Elvis wannabes.

Great song, anyway.
