BSA was founded 100 years ago tomorrow. February 8, 1910

Any of you steel players start out playing around the campfire?

You know, if you are an Eagle Scout, you are an Eagle Scout your entire life. If you quite before ataining that highest rank, then you just used to be a Boy Scout.

I am a proud and unappologetic Eagle like my father and older brothers before me. (And yes my earliest gigs were playing guitar around the camp fire.)

I,too, was in the Boy Scouts.I attained the rank of Life Scout, lacking 2 merit badges to earn Eagle Scout.I will regret this to the day I die.I learned a lot about life, survival and manhood in the Scouts.

Knot-tying during Webelos blew me out. Chucked the whole process then and there. Foreshadowed the distastrous mechanical-reasoning aptitude test results I'd earn three years later in eighth grade. At least once in my life I cut my losses. Power to all who have executed a bowline or half-hitch in the last century.

Like Andy, I am a Life Scout with only four merit badges from Eagle. The sad thing is that I got nearly all the required ones. I got my driver's license instead and have regretted it all my life. I am able to live through my two sons, who are both Eagle Scouts. Happy Birthday BSA!!!

Bill,

I too am a proud Eagle, January 4, 1985. I didn't "start" playing around the campfire, but I sure "logged" a lot of hours there! Laughing We were a very active troop by some standards. We would camp out once a month, regardless of weather, and we would always gather by the fire to sing songs and play guitars. You could say the Scouts were "instrumental" in my musical development! Laughing

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BSA!!!

I never made it past Star, but my son Trevor is closing in on his Eagle, although his 18th birthday is looming larger and larger. I am and will be extremely proud of him.

I'm really glad I got involved with scouting and made Eagle. I was fortunate to be in several very fine troops that were really active and made some great excursions, including the amazing Philmont Ranch in NM.

I'll also be eternally glad that after Eagle and Order of the Arrow I joined, and later led, a co-ed Sea Explorer Ship that contributed to my high school years being a total blast.

It depends on the troop- but scouting can be a truly rewarding pursuit. Congrats to them on 100 years.

I never made Eagle, only Life, but I'm really glad I did it.

Maybe if they would have had a Beatles Merit Badge back in the day, I might've made it. Oh Well
