OK...I know this is a long shot, but...

I have a good buddy who has hired me for a session on PSG. The song is a county take on an old tune by Berlin - "Take My Breath Away". The artist is doing it in G.

So...anybody ever play that tune on steel? Any hints/ideas? Am I plum crazy? (yup)

Don't know if this is any help. If you can get a hold of the Karoke track and just improvise from there. I do this a lot since there is no intrest in tabing pop hits from the 70s-80s and it seems to work. Mabey we need a "Things we'd like to see tabed" section.

Marke
I listen to the song sounds like the best thing is to more or less pad though the songs play chords in different places though out lots of scale chords would be best. no room for much fill.

John/Joe,

Thanks guys! I so appreciate any and all responses and input I get here - you guys are the best.

I had the producer send me an MP3 of a rough mix, and there is a really nice violin part weaving in and out of the vocal, which makes an even stronger case for just doing some padding and scale chords. I hear a intro progression of G, G/F#, Em, G/F# - so I'm playing a simple scale:

Strings 2&3, 3rd fret no pedals
Strings 1&2, 3rd fret no pedals
Strings 4&5, 3rd fret A&B pedals
Strings 1&2, 3rd fret no pedals

You know the drill. I tried playing it at the 15th fret too, but it clashes with the violin.

Basically, I'm just pretty excited to get a session call for steel. There's lotsa way better players up here in N. CA, but the producer is a good friend and wanted me to get the call!
