Hi,
I'm not sure if this question has ever been asked on the forum, searched for it but no findings.
So, is it possible to ugrade a state of the art ZumSteel with standard changer (compensators equipped) to a hybrid changer?
If so what has to be changed? I could imagine changes on following parts
1. The complete changer or only the changer fingers
2. Endplate because the cut-out for the nylon tuners don't fit anymore
3. Neck because the cut-out for the changer don't fit anymore
4. Cabinet itself - cut outs
5. Compensators need to be uninstalled, AFAIK hyrid changer don't support compensation?
Has anybody here on the forum ever upgraded to a hybrid changer w/o buying a new steel?
Thanks
Joerg |

I don't think I'd try it myself. |

Back in 2004 I bought hybrid #7 and Bruce told me the body cutout for the hybrid changer is smaller than a standard changer. He has to know before he starts a guitar |

Hi Joerg,
Hybrids are great, but so is the standard model. Respectfully; If it ain't broke, dont fix it.

According to Bruce Zumsteg, Buddy Emmons had quite a time deciding between the Zum Hybrid and the standard model.
He played both for quite a while but finally decided on the Hybrid. |

Hi.
Thanks everybody for their replies.
Yes Paddy, to have both would be my preferred solution for this dilemma too. To be honest I already tried to order a Hybrid in 2007 and made another attempt 2008 at the Dallas show but Bruce refused to take the order. But he sold me parts for my non-hybrid. So this is how my idea was born. Is buying a brandnew Zum Hybrid again an option?

Hi Joerg - I guess you would have to talk to Bruce about that ..I know he has cut back his workload a fair bit, but if you pester him enough he may relent ... _________________ 14'Zumsteel Hybrid D10 9+9

Hi Paddy,
I will contact Bruce soon. Haven't talked to him since Dallas '08. We have to talk through all this changer changing issues.
Thanks
