I've got a sho-bud pro 1 that is about 3 times louder than my sho bud student, it's just wired directly to the output jack. any insight? it overloads just about everything I plug it in to.[img][/img]

I am not a Sho-Bud expert but my 64 is wound at 20K and 10.5 on the tap and my Pro-III is 22K and 11K on the tap. So my guitars say that SB tended to wind them pretty hot. 18.5K seems to be where a lot of modern guitars are. My 66 Emmons is barely 14K and I think I remember somebody quoting BE that he never spec'd a guitar at more than 17.5K.
Put an ohmeter on it and see what yours is.
This makes me want to have Jerry Wallace wind me a 17.5 pickup for one of my Buds and see what it sounds like then, has anybody tried that? |

17.5 k is exactly what Jerry winds his pickups to, and recommends to anyone getting a rewind. |

When my pickups get over 18.5, they start to get muddy sounding and 'over-drivey"(is that a word?? )
Around 17,500k and coiltap around 11,500 down to 9,000k seems to bring out the best for my ear. |
