Here is a cool one I'm building for a blues / rock player. I'm quite happy how its shaping up and thought I'd share it with you all.
The body is one piece quilted maple from a monster billet I had in my stash.
Fretboard, pickup rings, and control covers are cocobolo rosewood
The pickups will be a set of custom wound nickel covered BG-Pups with 6 way rotary switching.

Here is the billet I started with

.

.
Here it is rough shaped

.

.
And here it is with an amber shellac seal / color coat and a few top coats of True Oil. Still have a bunch more to go, but she is starting to shape up.

.

The body's extra mass should create a different tonal spectrum from what I've seen you offer so far, Tom. How would you forsee it?

Thanks Jason Smile That was a sweet big quilt billet, not cheap either.

Ron ... I've found that electronics, pickup(s), construction details, and wood type have more influence than shape or mass alone.
On the mass variable specifically, take my Teardrop for example. I've built that body style using walnut and maple in both a 25" scale 8 string and 22.5" 6 string. While they both look the same proportionally, the long scale 8 actually has quite a bit more wood in it. Not only is it longer, but to keep my proportions, I scale up not only the thickness of the center neck through section, but the side stringers too. I juggle the proportions because I hate the look of some 8's that appear to be an afterthought add on to a 6. The result is / was they both had the same basic tonal potential and sustain.
While I'm certain too little mass would be a detriment, there is a point where more than needed yeilds no added benefit.

LoL ... it should look a bit familiar, Steve has the very first one, FPS-001 in flame maple and padauk Smile

The BG pickups on this one are a bit different than yours. They are based off Bryans BG Dark set, though the name is deceiving as they are not dark at all. I'd describe them as more of a "modern PAF" type tone if that makes any sence. Like all of Bryans pickups they have that great dynamic open and airy feel to them.

I'd be happy to build one for you! If you like, give me a shout and I can fill you in on options and details.
