Roy Rosetta. In Dallas, it was impossible to play something he could not play. He is the only one that never got a break, and he was unflappable. The show would not have been the same without him. What an iron man, I've never been more impressed.

| Roy is no dobut a great piano player. He plays many of the steel shows and I understand he is a very fine gentleman. I have never heard a bad word about him and that speaks very well of an individual. Thanks Roy for playing the Texcas show, you did a fantastic job. |

I don't know him personally, but it seems that he is one in a million. If you look at extended family, there's hardly a thread that goes by where he and his wife aren't offering prayers and offering hope to those who are in need.
To me, he is the consumate musician.

Just an Echo of just what has been said about Roy Rosetta. He IS one in a million. He loves music, and plays any and everything thrown at him. He gave me his latest cd at Dallas, and it's great. If you don't have one, order it...Excellent! And what about Barbara? ALso one in a million. See ya later Roy and Barbara!

I didn't get to attend the show this year due to work but from what I hear it was awesome. Roy and Barbara Rosetta are two of the kindest folks I've ever had the pleasure to meet. They both have hearts of gold no doubt and Roys as good as they come on piano. Real top shelf folks and I'm proud to call them both friends.

Roy is the man! Paul Polish is also a real pleasure to work with on stage. I can't imagine a Convention without these great players.

I should have given credit to the whole band, every one was excellent. I kept telling my wife what a good drummer Paul was, the bass player changed a few times and they were all great, loved the fiddle and reeds, and the guitars were so good. Of course one of them, Junior Knight, is also a Hall of Fame steeler. Howard, I like the comment about Roy's posture.

I, too, have played a couple of shows where Roy was in the backup band. Not only is he a great keyboard man and great personality, he has a really great first name.

I must jump in here and say...ROY, is my dear friend and it is my pleasure to get to work with him at a few of these shows. All of the comments above are correct. He is a kindly gentleman and works very hard for these shows. And takes them very seriously.
Something you may NOT know ,is that, in his spare time, Roy makes a lot if not most of the charts to the tunes that are done on the show. { if a player may be having a hard time with one }. The tunes that are being played these days are a bit more difficult then CHEATIN'HEART and CRAZY ARMS..{no offense to these all time great tunes} and one of the reasons the band can reach out to play some of the much more aggressive tunes these days are because ROY spends a lot of time charting and teaching the rest of the band how they are supposed to be played.
As Joe W. and Tommy D. have said in the past-- don't applaud for the tune being played-- applaud for the years it took the player to learn to play it that way..

| Roy Rosetta and I have been friends for quite a few years. We used to be in a band together and he was fun to work with. Few people know that He and Barbara (his wife) work an "Opry" type show in Kirbyville, Texas once a month. He is and has always been a gracious man with a wealth of musical knowledge and a willingness to be tolerant of those less talented. I had the good fortune of being present the night he got "discovered" by Herby Wallace. Herby had come to Nederland Texas to do a seminar and the host asked Roy to sit in with Herby. The result was that Herby asked Roy to go to the TSGA Jamboree with him and the rest is history. He just gets better with age!!! |

Roy, you ol' piano-pounder, you. It was great to play with you at Dallas again this year, as it always is. I just wish we had more time to just hang out together at these shows, but they never give you a break, do they? I'm glad to see you getting the recognition here you richly deserve, my friend. You and Barbara are the best.

If your a steel player and your going to play these shows,Roy Rosetta is your ace in the hole for sure.I have'nt ran across a song that he has'nt played yet.

ROY & BARB ROSETTA!!! Man, I call Roy the "Ironman of the Keys"...not only is he one of my all-time favorite musicians, but he just plays and plays for hours supporting the steel guitar players. This is why I call Roy the "Ironman".
I wish we had a special appreciation/award category for the hard working, dedicated musicians such as Roy Rosetta -- Bobby Caldwell's etc who put so some much effort over the years as back up musicians to our steel conventions. (Hint)
Barbara is another hard worker for the steel guitar show...thanks Barb for your hard work too. Hey Roy...I still think we needed a piano turnaround on Albert and Dale's solo album! HA. |

Roy is a steel players best friend. He knows when to play and when not to play. He is always a gentleman both musically and as a man. Paul Polish is a bass players dream drummer. He always goes with the flow of the band instead of trying to control the band as many drummers do. It is always a great pleasure for me to be the third part of a rhythm section with these two. When any steel player has these guys along with Junior Knight on guitar and the likes of Mark Abbott or Mac McCrae on bass, there is no need for anything else. I'm only sorry I was not able to play more this year.

My Friends,
I am totally overwhelmed by your kindness and compliments, although I'm not sure I am deserving of the wonderful things you have said, but thank you for making this piano player very proud. Being the steel guitar lover that I am, it is my pleasure to work with each and every one of you who sits behind one of the instruments I love, for it is my labor of love.
My focus has always been on supporting the steel guitarist, in the best possible way, so that he or she has only to concern themselves with their own performance.
My work in the rhythm section of the staff band through out the weekend in Dallas was made so much easier because of the likes of my buddy and "super" drummer Paul Polish. Some of the finest bassist I have ever worked with Mark Abbott, Mac Mcrae, "LIttle Dumplin" Johnny Cox and Ray Keller. Working with these fine musicians will only make life easier for you.
Again I "thank" all of you and as always I'm looking forward to the next time.
Howard Tate, thank you for starting this topic. I am very humbled.

Gotta throw my $5.00 worth in here.
Roy Rosetta is usually the first one on the stage, the last to leave, and the only one, that plays a real 10:00 to 10:00 job. From the first note to the last Roy hangs in there like an ole rusty fish hook. Well maybe with exception of Paul Polish.
Roy once told me he was gonna have a piano show and invite one steel player.
And ole Roy sits back there and sand bags a bunch. Hand him a mike and he'll show you another thing or three. WHAT A PLAYER !!!
Can't say enough about Roy and Barb. We love ya'll !!!!!!!
