Many of you will recall that Steel Guitarist-Astronaut Steve Robinson got a bunch of us to sign a banner that he's taking with him on his next space shuttle flight... which is coming up on Feb 7th (weather permitting)! Hah! Fasten your seatbelts folks, we're gonna go reeeeally fast and far! Is this cool or what? Thanks, Steve, and Godspeed! Smile Smile
(By the way, Steve's the one on the right in the photo below... with his picks in his spacesuit pocket...)

Steve is a great fan of steel guitar and country music. He will occasionally show up at a show.
When the shuttle got delayed returning home on his first mission (where he fixed the heat shield tile), he played the Derailer's song "Whatever Made You Change Your Mind", back to NASA.
Pretty cool.

We all need to thank Steve Robinson for taking a signed banner up on STS-130 (whether or not you signed).

As you may know, "the end" is near for NASA's space shuttle program. Most reports I've seen indicated 2010 would see the final launch. However, NASA's schedule indicates five launches in 2011
http://www.nasa.gov/missions/highlights/schedule.html
At any rate, there aren't many left. Considering the complexity of it's design and the tremendous stresses placed on each shuttle, during flight, I think it's a tribute to the excellence of all the people involved that the program has lasted as long as it has (STS-1 launched on April 12, 1981).

Keep on pickin'!
Glenn

Sorry, in my last post, I misstated regarding the shuttle launch schedule. The reports I'd been reading are correct. The remaining shuttle launches are STS-130, STS-131, STS-132, STS-133, and STS-134. The final launch is scheduled for September 16, 2010. The other launches I eluded to are rocket launches.
My bad.... Embarassed

Keep on pickin'!
Glenn

I've been told my playing sometimes "gets way out there", but I spaced that out until I saw this thread.

Carrying the banner along sounds like quite an Enterprise...
