I want to trade a 1949 Gibson Console Grande double eight non pedal steel guitar that I got from Don Helms. This was his back up steel. It has a personal message wrote on the bottom of guitar from Don helms covered in plexiglass. It comes with two cases,The original with Don's name on it and one I had made.only parts that are not original are the legs and pickups.Bobbe Seymore added the leg sockets and legs for Don and I had Jason Lollar make the pickups for it they are repoduction copy's of the originals.Pickup cavities and wires are all shielded and wraped.New pots installed but have original pots and they are good.also have some extra keys.I gave Don the original pickups because the new ones are great. This guitar sounds and looks great, made to last another 60+years.Want to trade for a quailty mandolin, Gibson Fern,Weber Fern ect... Thanks Bob Very Happy

I hope you get one heck of a mandolin in exchange for that chunk of history.

I wish I had a mandolin! Seriously, knowing this guitar is out there is keeping me up at night.

Bryan it keeps me up at night too! Don and I have played some serious music on this guitar. although it is not the one he used with Hank, it has that tone of Ole Red.But I really can use a Gibson Fern Mandolin at this time. But it does break my heart to let her go.But Don would understand.

Bob,

your best bet might be to post at

mandolincafe.com

It is the mandolin equivalent of this site--good info, good people, and tons of good instruments for sale and/or trade.

Good luck, I hope you get what you want (though I hate to see you part with that Gibson).

Bob,

it's listed, for now, in a section devoted to links to ads on other sites--ebay, Craig's list, etc., which seemed appropriate. There is another section dedicated exclusively to trades. Since you're not an MC member, I'm not sure if that's permitted. If I am advised by an MC moderator that it's okay to do so I'll move it to the "trade" section.

Here's the present link:

http://www.mandolincafe.com/forum/showthread.php?t=58880

I hope it gets the job done.

Mike
